Insomniac Games has stepped in to calm a growing fan debate over Marvel’s Wolverine, confirming that Logan and Sabretooth’s bond in the PS5 exclusive is not romantic. The clarification comes from the studio’s community director James Stevenson, who took to X to push back on claims that started circulating after comments from the game’s narrative director appeared in a recent review.

James Stevenson Shuts Down the Romance Rumors

Stevenson, who serves as Insomniac’s director of community and marketing, addressed the backlash directly through a series of replies on X. When a content creator pushed back on the idea that the Wolverine and Sabretooth relationship had been reframed as romantic, the director flatly denied it, telling the user their read on the situation was off track.

He went further with another fan, framing the dynamic as fraternal rather than romantic and describing Logan and Sabretooth as bonded like brothers or best friends, even though they also despise each other.

Stevenson didn’t stop there. While describing why the word “yearning” was used to describe the pair’s connection, he argued that plenty of people crave the kind of loyalty found in a close ally willing to fight beside them. Williams described the pair’s connection as a “love-hate” dynamic rooted in a shared, buried yearning, arguing that “hate and love are so hand in hand” once that pain becomes mutual.

Taken out of context, several fans and content creators read this framing as proof that Insomniac was hinting at a literal romance between the two X-Men characters, and the claim spread quickly across social media.
