Actress Inde Navarrette seems to have changed her mind about a sequel to “Obsession.” Although the breakout star had initially said a few months ago that she didn’t think the hit horror film would get a sequel, she seems to have changed her mind. Although she initially said she would like the film to become an anthology series, she now seems open to returning for a sequel, even though she’s also been tapped to star in Disney’s reboot of the “X-Men.”
Inde Navarette First Seemed To Turn Down An ‘Obsession’ Sequel
AdMedia / MEGABack in July, it seemed that Navarrette wasn’t actually interested in an “Obsession” sequel. In an interview with Nylon (per Inde News), the actress said “Obsession” would be better as an anthology series.
“I think the beautiful thing about it is that there is no sequel. I think it’d be cool if Curry did the anthology series that he was talking about, where each is a different wish,” she said at the time. “Then I could watch and not get scared by myself.”
“Obsession” was a box office juggernaut, earning nearly $300 million worldwide on a budget of under one million. It has since become one of the most profitable films of 2026.
What Is She Saying About The Film Now?
In October 2026, Navarrette appeared on the latest episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in front of 500 students at Chapman University. When asked about a potential sequel to “Obsession,” she expressed excitement about the possibility of returning to her character, Nikki.
“I would totally be open to doing a sequel. Are you kidding me? Who am I to say no? And what is she doing afterwards?” she asked. “I think the non-pretty answer, which I think is more important to give sometimes than kind of just giggling through answers, is she’s starting a grief process.”
“When things happen that are completely out of our control, like losing a loved one, losing a parent, losing autonomy, having an experience that wasn’t your fault, it’s very difficult to understand anything,” she added. “She’s just starting the grief process.”
It creates the potential for Nikki to make her own wish, to have her grief go away, and see the potential fallout as she attempts to rebuild her life after the devastating fallout of the first wish.
Inde Navarrette Reveals If ‘Obsession’ Changed The Way She Views Relationships
During the conversation, the actress said she took a big lesson from the film: “Don’t allow people to have control over you; you should be very independent.” However, she added an important disclaimer.
“But also, at the same time, if you’re in love with somebody, then you’re in love with them, and there’s nothing wrong with that,” she added. “As I’m growing up, I really want to give myself grace in not understanding everything. I’m very happy in mine right now.”
After the audience applauded her relationship disclosure, Navarrette laughed and added, “A relationship should not define who you are at all whatsoever, and the amount of attention or love that you are getting from somebody else does not define yourself whatsoever. I think it’s really important to remember that. Just know that you are loved and important and love everything.”
She told the crowd, “Love as much as you possibly can.”
Looking Ahead To Her Role In ‘X-Men’
When asked what she plans to do next, including her role as Rogue in the upcoming “X-Men” reboot, Navarrette said she is being careful as she navigates her newfound fame.
“I’m in a very specific opportunity in my career where I can kind of make it last as long as humanly possible or throw it all away. I really want to be specific with the next couple of my decisions to really solidify what I want to do in this industry,” she said, going on to explain that she likes to focus on well-created characters.
“And what I want to do is play characters that are people and grounded and really thought-through. And I really want to not look like myself in some characters,” she continued. “I attached myself to The Waffle House Index, and essentially I want with that character to either gain a lot of weight, lose a lot of weight, add eyebrow piercings, maybe shave my head, and do everything humanly possible to look different.”
She went on to say: “Because I also recognize that with acting comes the freedom of being a completely different person, one of those people being Rogue, Anna Marie… paying homage, paying respect to the incredible writers that are a part of Marvel, with Jake Schreier directing, taking what they want to do, adding my own sauce, and then going from there!”
The new “X-Men” reboot is expected to begin filming in early 2027, with a May 5, 2028, theatrical release.
