One of those jokes was Ricky Gervais calling Robert Downey Jr. a p*rn star and his 2008 film Iron Man a p*rn movie. Well, here’s something about the Iron Man actor. Robert Downey Jr. is a man who can take a joke very well. However, in the frenzy and chaos, media outlets created a rumor that the joke caused a feud between Ricky Gervais and Robert Downey Jr. The comedian had to take to his blog the next day to clear the air.

“All the same conspiracy theories as last year too… ‘So and so was offended’… “hasn’t been invited back yet’… exactly the same as last time.’Paul McCartney was furious’… no he wasn’t. And nor was Tim Allen and Tom Hanks. I was drinking with them after. Why do people have to embellish? They’re allowed to say they hated it. As for those who stand in support of the comedian, Robert Downey Jr. jokingly retaliated against the comedian by coming up on stage and calling the joke “mean-spirited”. Veteran actor Christian Bale on the other hand… loved the joke!

Alongside calling Robert Downey Jr. an adult entertainment star, Gervais also took a deep dive into the actor’s dark past as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. Comedy is indeed subjective but it seems that Christian Bale loved the joke too much.

“But many of you in this room probably know him [Robert Downey Jr.] best from such facilities as the Betty Ford Clinic and Los Angeles County Jail.” said Gervais.

“Aside from the fact that it’s been hugely mean-spirited with mildly sinister undertones, I’d say the vibe of the show has been pretty good so far, wouldn’t you?”

And from the alleged “feud” that happened between the two (it didn’t happen), Christian Bale came to show his support for Gervais by encouraging him!

“Thank God for comedians. I’m hoping he’s going to keep going further.”

To clarify the whole ordeal, Ricky Gervais’ jokes were indeed taken as jokes and no offense was given and none taken. The comedian is currently busy working on other stand-up specials and thinking of controversial jokes that people like so much!
