Keanu Reeves has been seen across a lot of different genres, embodying characters as versatile as his tremendous acting chops. But while he is more famous for his action projects like the John Wick saga and The Matrix film series, the actor hasn’t hesitated to star in projects of pretty much the opposite themes as well. Like absolute comedy, for instance.

Of course, not many people may know about this, but Reeves has even starred in a widely commended sitcom that couldn’t be sillier as compared to his other works. And, ironically enough, what landed him into this sitcom in the first place was nothing other than his sheer friendship with his co-star from his fan-favorite horror-fantasy Constantine, Peter Stormare!

For those many people who must be unaware of this, Keanu Reeves has actually starred in a sitcom. This started back in 2016 when he scored a role in the comedy series Swedish Dicks. This show featured a pair of unlicensed private detectives who are pretty much trying to get by a not-so-easy life in Los Angeles as they solve cases while rivaling against their competitors.

In this comedy series, the John Wick star had a rather peculiar role. He played a stuntman named Tex “Crazy Man” Johnson, who is also the “tragic best friend” of the detective played by his real-life friend and Constantine co-star, Peter Stormare. And, although surprising it may seem, it was this real-time friendship itself that had Reeves starring in the sitcom in the first place.

In an interview with The New York Post, the Prison Break star came clean about the same, talking about Reeves as:

He’s one of the few people [in the business] that I can talk to. I sent him the script and he called back and said, ‘I really like this and I want to do some comedy.’ That’s a side of him that rarely gets exposed.

Needless to say, after seeing Reeves fit so perfectly in action, it seems almost unimaginable to be able to fit him in a comedic picture. And yet, the actor’s inner comedic beast actually got out after getting cast and working on this sitcom, considering how the series he contributed to holds a stunning 94% score on the Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes!

While their friendship leading them to star in one of the most unimaginable projects together is one thing, Stormare even went so far as to comment how he feels Reeves and him are very much alike. Especially when it comes to the way they carry themselves in public despite their fame and their way of working, dedicated to the core. He confessed:

Keanu and me are very much alike — he’s very low-key and shies away from the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. But he’s a workhorse like me; we call each other ‘hermits’ and we work out together occasionally at the gym or meet to talk.

Well, for what it’s worth, we’re glad both Keanu Reeves and Peter Stormare were cast in Constantine together, for if they weren’t, perhaps they wouldn’t have hit it right off to the point where they even went on to star in one of the most unexpected sitcoms together!

Swedish Dicks can currently be streamed on Prime Video.
