“I hate the holidays”: Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus aren’t the Only Celebs Who Can’t Stand Christmas

In a world where almost everyone loves Christmas, some celebrities just can’t stand it. Some hate it because they’re lonely while some hate it because it promotes consumerism. Some have also pointed out the damage Christmas causes to the environment but all these stars stand against the holiday. From Lady Gaga to Colin Firth, these 8 celebrities are surely on Santa’s naughty list as they have publicly bashed Christmas in the past:

1) Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga has successfully established herself as one of the best singers of all time. Despite having a huge fanbase, the singer once stated that she has always felt lonely during Christmas. During her performance at London’s O2, the singer said,

“I hate the holidays. I’m alone and miserable you f**king stuffed little toy.”

Gaga has also showcased her acting talent in films like House of Gucci (2021) and A Star Is Born (2018). Fans are extremely excited about her performance as Harley Quinn in the upcoming movie Joker: Folie à Deux (2024).

2) Miley Cyrus

Just like Gaga, singer Miley Cyrus also struggled with feeling loved during the Christmas season. Announcing the release of her 2019 song, My Sad Christmas Song, the singer wrote in a post on X,

“A sad Christmas song I wrote a few years back right before the holidays. Was feeling like shit cause I couldn’t be with the one I loved. Even with a house full of family and friends I still felt alone….”

The singer further wrote a positive message for all her fans who could relate to her situation. As for the 2023 Christmas, we are sure Cyrus won’t feel lonely as she is currently dating musician Maxx Morando.

3) Ozzy Osbourne

The lead vocalist of the heavy metal band Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, once revealed that he hates Christmas mainly because it promotes consumerism. In a 2009 interview with Express UK, the singer said,

“I have to unravel all these f**king presents. What a f**king waste of paper.”

The 75-year-old singer rose to fame during the 1970s and adopted the nickname “Prince of Darkness.”

4) Rod Stewart

Another singer who was a worldwide sensation in the 1970s, Rod Stewart, hates Christmas. His wife, Penny Lancaster, once revealed in an interview with DailyMail that the singer can’t stand Christmas,

“He can’t wait till the decorations are down and his house is back to normal – Just to lift his mood I put a little Father… Lady Christmas on. It puts a big smile on his face.”

Stewart is among the best-selling music artists of all time, having sold more than 120 million records worldwide.

5) Noel Gallagher

The songwriter, lead guitarist, and co-lead vocalist of the rock band Oasis, Noel Gallagher. Apparently, one of the most successful songwriters in British music history has a problem with Christmas. In a 2021 interview with Far Out Magazine, the singer said,

“I f**king hate it with a passion – I thought, ‘Christmas, you know what, I’m going to give Christmas a second chance here.’ I gave it a second chance, it was f**king s**t. Too much food, too much ‘We Are the World,’ the sweaters, the TV presenters, the s**t adverts, the f**king weather.”

After leaving Oasis in 2009, Gallagher formed Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds. He is widely considered to be one of the most influential songwriters in the history of British rock music.

6) Marilyn Manson

The lead singer of the band that shares his name, Marilyn Manson, is not a fan of Christmas as he once said in an interview with the Associated Press,

“I hate Christmas. Some of my friends celebrate Chanukah, which seems to me to be more conventional and a better holiday because you get more gifts. I think… I’ve spent every Christmas without a Christmas tree.”

He is widely considered one of the most controversial figures in heavy metal music and has been involved in numerous controversies throughout his career.

7) Diego Luna

In 2010, actor Diego Luna highlighted the problems with Christmas, particularly the wave of consumerism, in an interview with Celestrellas,

“I hate the wave of consumerism and the feeling that you have to do things that you normally don’t have to do at any other time of the year.”

Luna is well-known for his portrayal of Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and the Disney+ series Andor.

8) Colin Firth

Colin Firth starred in one of the most popular holiday romantic comedy films, Love Actually so it’s quite shocking that the actor isn’t fond of Christmas,

“I have a profound loathing of Christmas – it’s sad really. At this time of year, I am careful not to switch on the radio because those novelty jingles make me homicidal and plunge me into the heart of Scrooge territory – I think Christmas turns us all into Scrooge. Everyone is trying to throw happy stuff at you, and that’s when I come over all humbug. I think ‘A Christmas Carol’ is the best seasonal story you’ll find, because after its darkness, fear and regret, you’re ready for a bit of joy by the end.”

The actor made it very clear that he hates Christmas. As for his acting, he is a talented star who has earned various awards including an Academy Award, two British Academy Film Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and three Screen Actors Guild Awards.
