Ulf’s betrayal should push Tumbleton toward war. House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 7 places Ulf beside Ormund after the Hightower commander offers him Driftmark and feeds every resentment he has collected against Rhaenyra and Daemon. Ulf does not need a grand political conversion; bruised pride and a shiny title appear to have done the job. The Winter Wolves and Tully forces are approaching Tumbleton, while Ormund has Corlys in custody, so the finale has a natural point where these threads can collide.

The book history makes this development even more alarming. Ulf becomes one of the infamous Two Betrayers during the conflict around Tumbleton, although the adaptation has given Ormund a more personal role in recruiting him. I expect Episode 8 to confirm where Ulf stands, but Hugh remains the wild card. If Ulf openly turns Silverwing against the Blacks while Hugh stays loyal, the show can stretch the Two Betrayers storyline into Season 4 instead of copying both defections at once.

Sunfyre’s return gives Aegon a reason to stop running. Aegon had accepted that he might die facing the Mooton soldiers before Sunfyre appeared behind him. That reunion changes his position overnight. Helaena sees herself riding Dreamfyre and ordering the dragon to burn an approaching force, followed by an eclipse, snow, fog, and the children she has lost or fears losing. She has resisted becoming another weapon for the Greens, so placing her in Dreamfyre’s saddle was a startling choice. Alicent still has to survive Aemond and Alys. Alicent drugged Aemond with spiced wine after learning that he had tried to kill Aegon, then used his collapse as an opening to escape Harrenhal. Alicent could return to Rhaenyra with confirmation that Aemond is alive, although their arrangement has become dangerously tenuous. Ormund believes removing Corlys will weaken Rhaenyra’s control of the capital, and he may be right. The finale should either begin a rescue effort or force Alyn to make a decision without his father’s guidance. That second option interests me more. Corlys has spent years asking for his sons to inherit the Velaryon name; captivity may finally make him confront what he expects from them beyond carrying his legacy.
