Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds were notably absent during the Golden Globe Awards. Despite Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine being nominated for the Cinematic & Box Office Achievement Award, the couple decided to skip the event amidst Lively’s scandal with her It Ends With Us co-star and director, Justin Baldoni.
While many sources claim that the skip was planned much before Lively filed a complaint against Baldoni, some claimed that she and Reynolds decided not to attend after her agents allegedly ‘begged’ CBS and Dick Clark Productions to allow her to present a major award but was refused.
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds allegedly skipped the Golden Globes after she was refused a chance to be a presenter
Blake Lively has been in the headlines for the past few weeks. Earlier in 2024, the actress became a controversial figure after her interviews during the release of It Ends With Us went viral for her positioning of the film and using it to promote her own businesses. Several other instances were revealed where Lively’s image was tarnished.
Recently, Lively filed a complaint against director and co-star Justin Baldoni of s*xual misconduct and orchestrating a smear campaign against her (via People). Amidst these scandals, Lively and her husband Ryan Reynolds reportedly skipped the Golden Globe Awards, despite Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine being nominated (via Deadline).
While it was initially reported to be planned way ahead of the scandal, a recent rumor suggested that the couple skilled the event after Lively’s agents tried to get her to be a presenter for a major award to ‘save her career’ but were refused by CBS and Dick Clark Productions who produce the show.
It is not confirmed whether this was the actual reason for their skip as many other sites mentioned that it was planned before she even filed the complaint on Baldoni. However, this rumor suggests that Lively’s career in Hollywood may be headed for a downfall.
Golden Globes host comedian Nikki Glaser refused to joke about Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni
The Golden Globes are one of the most prestigious awards ahead of the Oscars. While its winners dominate the conversation, some aspects of the event itself can be talked about more. Despite the natural urge to make it more sensational, Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser said she would not joke about the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni controversy.
The comedian said that she did not want to pull a ‘Ricky Gervais’ on stage and wanted to keep hosting, and would avoid hot topics like the Lively-Baldoni scandal. She said (via Deadline),
I think the Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni thing is such a hot-button thing right now that even a mere mention of it will seem like I could be on the wrong side of things, even though I would never be. I also don’t want to give his name any — I’m mad I even know his name, to be honest with you, so I don’t need to say it anymore.
Glaser also mentioned that she wanted to avoid talking too much about politics, especially this year’s election, as too much has been said about it already.
