The advisories posted by Environment Canada this morning projected between 10 mm and 20 mm more rain on top of bringing the expected total over the past day to between 20 mm and 40 mm of rain.

” The ground, already near saturation, has little ability to absorb further rainfall,” the weather agency said in its yellow rainfall warning.

The rain is expected to continue into the afternoon Monday according to the weather agency.

Water will likely pool on roads and in low-lying areas, Environment Canada said.

Monday’s precipitation, another round of heavy rain may hit the region Tuesday.

The Rideau Valley Conservation Authority issued a flood watch on April 8 for the Tay Valley and Rideau Lakes regions as water levels remain high in the upper watershed.

“Residents are strongly encouraged to remain vigilant, monitor local conditions, and take necessary steps to protect their properties,” the authority states.

The Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority, meanwhile, also issued a water safety statement on April 7 for areas along the Lower Ottawa River.

Ottawa’s last major floods occurred in 2019, when 2,000 Canadian military personnel were sent to relieve flood impacts across Ontario, New Brunswick and Quebec, and most recently in 2023 when Ottawa’s 3-1-1 service received around 130 calls related to basement flooding.
