Julian Nagelsmann has come out to defend Leroy Sané's performance in Germany's 7-1 win over Group E minnows Curaçao yesterday.
“With Leroy, the first basis for assessment is how much he invests in the game," the coach in a media round after the game.
"He invested a lot; he was diligent in all transition situations. He was very involved, both offensively and defensively.
"I don't know the stats yet, but I think he covered an enormous amount of ground. And made some good runs in behind.
“He was a bit unlucky with that one chance, but it wasn't that easy either,” Nagelsmann said, as their attention now turns to Côte D'Ivoire.
Regarding the player himself, Sané spoke to Sport BILD after the match saying he was not too upset about failing to grab a goal.
“I'm not stressing about that. When it happens, it happens. We scored a lot of goals [against Curaçao], that's what matters.
“For me, the most important thing is that we win, that's the top priority. I hope the goal comes soon,” the 30-year-old concluded.
