The Star Wars franchise has never failed to pique its fans’ interest with the many twists and turns it revolves around. One of these was that of none other than the “Chosen One” prophecy, which became a massive deal among fans as it played a pivotal role in the Skywalker Saga. Although it is made clear by the original film trilogy that Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One, the question that confused fans was who would fulfill the prophecy of the Chosen One.
While many speculated that after Anakin, Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker would be the one to bring balance to the Force, what’s surprising is that that was never George Lucas’ original decision. Instead, the one Lucas wanted to take on the mantle of the Chosen One was Leia Skywalker!

George Lucas Wanted Leia Skywalker As The Chosen One?
Since Anakin Skywalker defeated Palpatine by the end of the original Star Wars film trilogy, he was deemed the Chosen One by the Jedi Order. However, as shown in the later parts of the franchise, it was assumed that there was another Skywalker who would take on the mantle of the Chosen One from Anakin.
This brought about a lot of debate among fans about who the other Skywalker could be. As Anakin’s son Luke Skywalker played a major hand in defeating Darth Sidious in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, many fans interpreted this as him taking on the mantle of the Chosen One.
However, while fans were busy debating on that, George Lucas had an entirely different plan in mind. Instead of giving over the mantle of the Chosen One to Luke, he originally planned right from the beginning for it to be Leia Skywalker who brings balance to the Force as the ultimate Chosen One of the Force.
Furthermore, he wanted to make Leia the Supreme Chancellor of the New Republic all the while bringing back Darth Maul. This would have led to Leia defeating Maul and bringing back balance to the Force through the same, reclaiming her status as the Chosen One.
Something similar was witnessed in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker as well, i.e. the last film from the Skywalker Saga, as Leia brought Ben Solo back to aide Rey Skywalker in defeating Palpatine. Moreover, her death also proved to be a crucial part of redeeming Kylo Ren, thus, ending up fulfilling Lucas’ wishes, more or less!

This “Chosen One” Element Was In Star Wars: The Clone Wars Too
Though it might sound surprising to many, the fact that there was another Skywalker besides Anakin Skywalker, who would fulfill the prophecy of the Chosen One, was made evident in the sixth season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars.
In that, the mysterious Force priestesses tell Yoda that “there is another Skywalker,” with a baby heard crying in the background. Furthermore, when Obi-Wan stated that Luke Skywalker was their last chance to defeat the Empire in The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda hinted at something similar as he said, “No, there is another.”
All of this single-handedly pointed at only one thing: that it wasn’t Mark Hamill‘s Luke Skywalker, but indeed Leia Skywalker who held the potential of bringing back peace and balance to the Force all the while fulfilling the prophecy and George Lucas’ wishes as the Chosen One.
