SUMMARY

  • Florence Pugh believes that her MCU counterpart can get the best of Peter Parker.
  • But Andrew Garfield doesn't see eye to eye with her assessment.
  • In the comics, Yelena's sister Natasha did beat Spider-Man in a fight.

When it comes to street-level heroes in the Marvel universe, few come close to Spider-Man. Moreover, his accomplishments aren’t just confined to being the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, as his recent adventures have taken him across universes and dimensions.

But despite his abilities, Florence Pugh believes her MCU counterpart can take down the webhead. Although The Amazing Spider-Man star Andrew Garfield didn’t exactly see eye to eye with Pugh’s assessment, in the comics, the webhead did once yield to Yelena’s sister.

During an interview with LADbible TV, Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh engaged in a friendly banter over who’d win a potential fight between Yelena and Spider-Man. While Pugh claimed that Yelena could get the upper hand in a fight with Spider-Man, given Peter’s kindness, Garfield claimed that the webhead wouldn’t lose to Yelena. Although under specific circumstances, a win against Spider-Man is possible for Yelena, given the difference in their power levels, the latter doesn’t stand much chance on paper.

However, Scarlett Johansson‘s Black Widow might have a better shot at beating the webhead than her sister, as in Amazing Spider-Man #86 by Stan Lee and John Romita Jr, Natasha fought Spider-Man and won. While it’s important to note that Peter was losing his power in that issue, this doesn’t take away from Black Widow’s achievement, as she did take him down before giving up on the fight.

With Pugh returning to the role of Yelena in the upcoming 2025 release, Thunderbolts, it’ll be interesting to see if she ever crosses paths with the MCU’s webhead. As for Andrew Garfield‘s iteration of the role, the actor hasn’t completely given up on the idea of playing Peter again. The Oscar-nominated star also added that there are endless possibilities of what can be done with his version of Peter, but didn’t confirm if it’ll transpire or not.

I think it’s kind of endless, what can be done with that character. Not that we should; not that we will, but I think you can always find another story to tell.

While time will tell if we’ll ever see the duo of Pugh and Garfield together in the realm of MCU, for now, fans can be excited for their outing outside the superhero realm, We Live in Time, which has opened to rave early reviews.

We Live in Time is slated to release on 1 January 2025.
