Florence Pugh doesn’t seem to take the entertainment industry at face value and called out its fickle nature in a new interview.

While discussing her reputation, the “Black Widow” actress declared that she’s “not an idiot.” She understands that as much as the industry loves to “build” people up, it also “loves to bring them down.”

In a candid interview for the Vanity Fair October cover story, the 30-year-old discussed how she holds onto her agency in an industry that frequently tries to box women in. She said fame and acclaim can disappear in a second, just as quickly as they arrive.

“I know that everybody in this industry has rises and falls. I’m not an idiot,” she said when asked about her “good reputation” with the public. “I’ve seen that happen to loads of people, especially women. We love to build them up, and we love to bring them down.”

Discussing the possibility, the “Oppenheimer” actress explained that she doesn’t like a messy set and would keep things professional if she pursued directing.

“I don’t like messy sets. I want people to come to work and work, and enjoy that it’s a luxury to do this,” Pugh noted. “When moods change on set, it’s because someone is preventing that from happening, and that’s what makes people feel like they haven’t been cared for.”

A source told Page Six in 2022 that the alleged conflict stemmed from Pugh’s disapproval of Wilde’s involvement with Harry Styles. The source claimed Wilde was still with Jason Sudeikis at the time.

“I can tell you for a fact that Flo seeing Olivia and Harry all over each other on set did not go down well as Olivia was still with Jason when she first hooked up with Harry,” the insider said.

“I don’t want to be a secret, but I also don’t want everything to be divulged,” she said. “The important thing is that we’re happy, and I feel solid and safe and sturdy. And that’s worth its weight in gold in our lives.”

She added, “I actually asked him, ‘I wonder if you’re going to come up (in the interview)?’ He said, ‘Well, shall I pop by?'”

The Oscar nominee has remained a vocal supporter of Palestine amid the ongoing conflict in the region.

Her advocacy has cost her hundreds of thousands of followers, but that seems a small price to pay.

“I don’t know why it took so long for people to start talking and for people to actually feel sympathy,” Pugh told the news outlet. “But no, I was never scared of it. And I think weirdly, because so many people actively weren’t [speaking up], that made me even more confused — and kind of probably even more in the right to talk about it.”

She then lamented how little had changed, saying it is “horrible to be watching such pain when so much of our lives just seem to be moving forward.”

Pugh added, “I think that’s what I’ve found so difficult about social media as well: How can I say I’m having a really good time when literally one scroll up, I’m looking at a baby that’s motherless and fatherless?”
