The film The Apprentice has been at the center of controversy due to the timing of the release and the depiction of Trump. The MCU’s Winter Soldier seems to have moved on from being a political pawn to being the man in charge of The Apprentice. Sebastian Stan plays former POTUS and present Republican candidate Donald Trump in the upcoming biopic. The film premiered at this year’s Cannes International Film Festival and will reportedly be released in October.

The film has been at the center of controversies due to rumored depictions of the former President. According to Variety, the film reportedly drew audible gasps from the audience at Cannes when Trump was shown to have s*xually assaulted his ex-wife Ivana Trump, which the makers allege was taken from Ivana Trump’s divorce statements.

The controversies and multiple lawsuits from Trump’s presidential campaign and others have not deterred the film from getting a release. Despite fans’ fear that the film might have watered down the former POTUS’ depiction, the news that the film will be rated R has given them some hope.

I honestly am just excited to see the acting! How the characters of trump is embodied by Sebastian. He’s a great actor so I am interested to see!

With the film release in October before the elections and the campaign being underway, the unhinged nature of the film and its R-rating might affect Trump’s candidature. Will it invariably lead to a potential loss in the election is yet to be seen.

While the world waits to watch the controversial Sebastian Stan starrer The Apprentice, its subject Donald Trump seems not to be too happy with the film’s existence. According to HuffPost, the former president was rumored to have sent a cease and desist letter to the makers of the film against the release.

However, director Ali Abbasi has claimed that he has only received positive responses to the film and even invited Donald Trump to watch it. He said during its Cannes premiere (via Variety),

I don’t necessarily think that this is a movie he would dislike. I don’t necessarily think he would like it. I think he would be surprised, you know? And like I’ve said before, I would offer to go and meet him wherever he wants and talk about the context of the movie, have a screening, and have a chat afterwards if that’s interesting to anyone at the Trump campaign.

The makers of the film were reportedly sued by Trump’s presidential campaign for maligning the politician’s image and was also the subject of a lawsuit by billionaire Dan Snyder, who reportedly donated money to the production of the film, assuming it would be a positive portrayal of the former President (via The New Daily).

The Apprentice is set to open in cinemas on October 11.
