The official trailer of the Minecraft movie was long awaited by fans, however, it disappointed a majority of the fanbase. Jack Black’s role as Steve was also questioned by fans. However, Netflix’s upcoming season 2 of the One Piece live-action could make things right.

Jack Black is a beloved actor, and people adore him for his carefree personality. Yet, the recent Minecraft trailer impressed no one and brought flake upon the actor himself. But if there is one casting that could redeem his name again, it would be as an unexpected One Piece character.

Tin-Plate Wapol, or simply Wapol, is a former monarch of the Drum Kingdom. He is the main antagonist of the Drum Kingdom arc, as he is a ruthless ruler who has no regard for his subjects. He is a spoiled and corrupt king, which made the people of his kingdom hate him.

Despite being a senseless ruler, the character itself is extremely funny. His actions served as comic relief at times while simultaneously infuriating people. He both looks and acts childish but is under no circumstances stupid. He is also extremely gluttonous, and he eats nonstop. Rather than being a fearful villain like Crocodile, Wapol’s character flaws make him a comedic villain.

Jack Black has a huge range of acting roles and fans believe that he can serve justice to Wapol’s character. The actor can easily embody this greedy character, who can eat endlessly. Black might also be the best option if Netflix wants to show the unhinged yet funny character of Wapol.

Why did Jack Black Receive Criticism Over His Role in the Minecraft Movie?

The Minecraft movie trailer is hated as a whole and not simply due to Jack Black’s presence. The blend of live-action as well as CGI elements made the trailer look uncanny. But Jack Black’s casting as Steve did not help the case.

In Minecraft, Steve appears to be a younger man. Despite being made of blocks, his age is extremely clear. In the trailer, Jack Black is wearing a t-shirt of the correct color, but nothing else about him resembles the character. Black has also kept his curly long hair, which is a far cry from Steve’s short hair.

However, if the movie’s story required an older Steeve, then things could work out well with the actor. It is likely that the story will portray a Steve who has been stuck in the Minecraft world for a bit too long and has thus become older in appearance. Jack Black’s signature comedy style is expected to save the movie, and the actor has to prove his relevance in it at the same time.

The One Piece live-action is streaming on Netflix, while the latest Minecraft movie will be premiered on April 4, 2025, in theaters.
