Calling all action lovers! Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie are coming together for the sixth time to add a mind-boggling action-thriller to their list of collaborations – Viva La Madness.
As per Variety, the film is based on J.J. Connolly’s namesake novel, aka the sequel to his very first book, Layer Cake. Layer Cake has already been adapted into a feature film of the same name by Matthew Vaughn in 2004. Despite being a sequel, Viva La Madness is being pushed as a standalone and is neither a sequel, continuation, nor a spin-off of the 2004 crime-drama.
The book follows a London drug dealer, X, plotting his return to the capital while currently hiding out in the Caribbean.
Ritchie is set to be both the director and writer for the film, while Statham is the only one cast so far. Statham and Thomas Benski are producing the film through Punch Palace Productions and Lumina Studios, along with Toff Guy Films and Black Bear, the latter of which will also handle the international sales on the film.
In honor of the action star and Ritchie reuniting on screen, let’s take a trip down memory lane to find out which of their collaborations have been the best so far. Surely you can guess number one!

5 Revolver
Revolver (2005) | Credits: Redbus Film DistributionStarting off with the Ritchie-Statham project that didn’t quite hit the mark, Revolver. Released in 2005, the action-thriller follows the story of a revenge-seeking trickster, Jake Green (Statham), who has just spent seven years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit.
The brilliant man is consumed by revenge, particularly against Dorothy Macha, the reason behind Jake losing seven years of his life. The film has its usual plot twists and signature Ritchie action, but lacks in other aspects of storytelling.
While most wouldn’t list the film higher on the list, it does have its share of supporters. Rotten Tomatoes called it “an incoherent misfire“, while other critics also criticized the film for its confusing storyline.

4 Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre
Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre (2023) | Credits: LionsgateThe spy action comedy is Ritchie and Statham’s latest collaboration. The actor plays the role of the titular spy, Orson Fortune, tasked with tracking down and stopping the sale of a deadly weapons technology before it gets handed over to the highest bidder by Hugh Grant’s arms broker, Greg Simmonds.
While Operation Fortune may not be the duo’s best work, it sure is entertaining and possibly worth a few rewatches. With mixed reviews, the film has just what it needs to keep the audience hooked, despite not being in competition with others in the genre.
If you are into action and are looking to watch something on the lighter side, Operation Fortune just might be what you need. It may not reach the heights of Ritchie’s classics, but you’ll have a good time. The cast kills it on this one, too!

He surprises his colleagues by pulling off precision skills and expert marksmanship against a crew of robbers during a heist.
As his calm exterior masks a brutal vendetta, his coworkers are left wondering who H is; little do they know that the man is out for revenge. Wrath of Man has been praised for being on par with the expectations fans have from the duo.

1 Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie’s First Film: Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels
Ritchie and Statham have worked together on some pretty impressive films, but unfortunately, nothing beats their first collaboration, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels – the one where it all began.
Released in 1998, the crime comedy follows four friends navigating London’s criminal underworld after a high-stakes card game goes wrong. They are forced to pay a £500,000 debt within one week.
Starring Jason Flemyng, Dexter Fletcher, Nick Moran, and more, Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels is easily Ritchie and Statham’s best collaboration yet. They really set the bar high with this one!
