Elden Ring: How to Beat Malenia, Blade of Miquella

This is a quick guide on how to beat Malenia in the latest Soulslike project developed by FromSoftware. The player base was thrown into the deep end the moment they crossed paths with this overpowered boss and what many would consider one of the hardest boss fights in the game.

Fortunately, this boss is optional and the Tarnished can ignore her to look the other way and mind their business. However, some players will not be satisfied if one more optional boss is left untouched. Malenia is a powerful foe but not impossible to defeat with enough preparations and training.

Where Can You Find Malenia, Blade of Miquella?

Malenia, Blade of Miquella, can be found at the bottom of Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree. The game developers designed the world of Elden Ring to be vast and rich in content that can keep the player base occupied for a long while.

Players must first solve a puzzle to teleport to the top of the Haligtree at the Liturgical Town of Consecrated Snowfield. Once the puzzle is complete and players are at the top, they can descend and find a church with a small garden and an elevator to the left that will take them to the boss waiting below.

How to Prepare to Fight Malenia, Blade of Miquella?

Despite being an optional boss fight, many players seem to have trouble fighting against Malenia, and she later gained the reputation of being the hardest boss ever designed in a FromSoftware game. Elden Ring players should be prepared for two phases in this boss battle with various attack patterns.

Malenia is fast and aggressive, making it hard to dodge her incoming attacks. Players should equip the Bloodhound’s Step Ash of War to increase the distance of each roll, and this worked like a charm going up against Commander Gaius in the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion. The second phase will be much more challenging since Malenia can fly and deal heavy damage from above.

Players should create enough distance between them and Malenia for a quick reprieve. It is worth noting that a proper build can easily melt this powerful foe and make this Elden Ring boss look like an average foe.

How to Beat Malenia, Blade of Miquella?

This optional boss is no pushover, and charging in without a plan of attack or strategy will likely result in defeat. Fortunately, Malenia is not impossible to defeat, especially with a great loadout, a well-thought-out plan, and a large supply of patience.

The easiest way to beat this boss is by equipping the Blaspehmous Blade and hitting Malenia. This strategy worked against Jori, the Elder Inquisitor, and can take a huge chunk of the health bar away. Immediately summon a Mimic Tear or any Spirit Ash to distract Malenia and give the Tarnished enough time and room to use the powerful two-handed attack.

Elden Ring players can take a huge portion of the health bar down in a few minutes. Malenia will go to the second phase, granting her the ability to fly and deal damage by landing on top of the player. The Mimic Tear should get in the way between the player and the boss to take the most damage.

Players should be familiar with each attack and know how to counter each attack effectively. Dodging and rolling can work for the most part only if they are timed right.

Malenia, Blade of Miquelle will eventually be defeated after a few attacks with the Blasphemous Blade. Players can collect the Hand of Malenia, Scarlet Aeonia, Malenia’s Great Rune, and a choice between her Katana or 50000 Runes.
