Earlier on Thursday, Said El Mala looked set to join Brentford FC after Bild reported that the Premier League side had submitted an offer worth a total of €50 million that 1. FC Köln were prepared to accept.

However, both Bild and Sky Germany now report that the transfer is off, with El Mala having decided against a move to the English Premier League club.

According to Bild, the 19-year-old rejected the move because he felt it was “not the right step” for his career.

This doesn't necessarily mean El Mala will remain at Köln beyond this summer, but rather that he appears to be holding out for an offer from a bigger club that he considers a better fit.

El Mala is coming off a breakthrough campaign in the Bundesliga, in which he scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 34 games for Köln.
