Black Myth Wukong has turned the gaming world upside down, given how popular it has become in such a short span. The game recently crossed 10 million copies across all platforms, a feat it managed to achieve in under four days of its release.
While it’s undeniable that Black Myth Wukong is a major contender for the Game of the Year award, its incredible sales also go on to prove that single-player titles are still very much in demand. Despite a notion floating around for a while now that single-player games are not popular anymore, many examples, like Black Myth Wukong, show otherwise.

There was no doubt that Black Myth Wukong was going to be a massive hit given how much attention it was grabbing even before release, and the glimpses Game Science has shown of the game over the years have always received positive reception. However, the numbers it’s been putting up since its release are mind-boggling, and no one saw it as being this successful.
It goes without saying that multiplayer games find more success compared to single-player games when it comes to overall popularity and sustainability. Games like Fortnite, Warzone, and League of Legends boast a huge player base, with new players picking them up on a regular basis. Furthermore, they usually have higher longevity and also benefit from the eSports scene.
An old tweet from EA has resurfaced, making light-hearted fun of users who play single-player games. However, this couldn’t be far from reality, as single-player games are still thriving and are the preferred choice for many.
Games like Elden Ring, Hogwarts Legacy, and Marvel’s Spider-man 2 have had massive success, indicating that it’s not about single-player or multi-player, but if the game has potential and ticks the right boxes, it can succeed.
Black Myth Wukong Continues to Break Records
Undoubtedly, Game Science has hit a masterstroke with Black Myth Wukong. As mentioned before, the game has already sold more than 10 million copies, becoming the fastest-ever video game, leaving behind the likes of Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077.
The numbers on Steam are also impressive, with the game boasting the highest number of concurrent players on Steam ever. Additionally, in terms of most played games on Steam, it’s only behind PUBG, a game that was released more than seven years ago.
The staggering numbers aren’t going to end here, as the game is not even a week old. It is yet to be released on the Xbox platform due to some issues, but we will likely see an increase in the player base when it does. Overall, with the release of Black Myth Wukong, we are witnessing history being created.
