The game has moved fans with excitement as the developer introduced a gameplay mechanic that gives the character Whis a significant advantage over other fighters. His character is accurately portrayed in the gaming world, which is similar to his unparalleled power and strongest character in the series.

Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO Gives Whis’ Unparallel Advantage

Recent gameplay footage shared by an X user @DbsHype has revealed that Whis possesses an ultra-unique ability in the Dragon: Ball Sparking! ZERO. In the original series, he is the angelic attendant and martial arts master to the God of Destruction Beerus. He has been granted Ultra Instinct dodges without any Ki drainage, which has set him apart from all other characters in the game.

The mechanics are a nod to the character’s immense power and skill, as depicted in the Dragon Ball Super series. In that, he is always in a mode of Ultra Instinct, a technique that allows for automatic reaction and movement without conscious thought. In designing such a game, the developers have faithfully created his abilities.

please make it so if whis actually fights he just dies because angels arent supposed to fight

Unfair but canon. He's an angel, he's always in ultra instinct. Love these little touches that take advantage of the lore.

I get it, but I’m really concerned that ranked leaderboards are just gonna be filled with UI GOKU and Whis. Like that’s so boring. I hope that there will be some variety and not people saying “IM SO GOOD” meanwhile they play the EXTREMELY broken characters like 80% will do.

Personally sometimes a game don’t need balancing, it’s more fun when shit is unfair and over the top and see how the one with the short end of the stick is able to prevail

The decision to include this powerful ability has raised concern within the community. There are worries that ranked leaderboards might become dominated by players using Whis or other top-tier characters, reducing character diversity in high-level matches.

Some are expressing their celebration over the design choice as a victory for lore accuracy. They argue that not all characters were created equal in the Dragon Ball universe and this disparity in power should be reflected in the game. It allows players to truly feel the vast differences in strength between characters like Whis and less powerful fighters.

Gameplay vs. Canon?

The Sparking! ZERO game appears to be giving more importance to canonical accuracy over fighting game balance, a bold move for gaming design. The approach is not without precedent in the Dragon Ball gaming franchise. Previous titles have often included characters with different power levels.

It seems the extent to which Whis’s abilities have been implemented in Sparking! ZERO seems to push this concept further than ever before. Also, the supporters of this design choice argue that overcoming seemingly insurmountable odds could become a thrilling aspect of high-level play, much like the underdog stories often seen in the Dragon Ball series itself.

Its fans are now curious about how the game will handle characters from different power tiers. Will the developers put new mechanics in place to allow weaker characters to stand a chance against the likes of Whis? Some even suggest employing team-based gameplay or setting up special conditions that could level the playing field.

Pre-purchase of Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is currently available on Steam and will be released on 10 October 2024.
