Dragon Ball Officially Reveals an Ability That Could Make Krillin Relevant Again

Krillin has spent most of Dragon Ball Super on the sidelines, watching Goku, Vegeta, and even Gohan pick up one flashy new transformation after another. He has no Saiyan blood, no divine training, and no god-tier mentor waiting to unlock a power-up with his name on it.

But with Ultra Instinct, there is a loophole that creates new possibilities. The manga has already confirmed that Ultra Instinct doesn’t strictly require a transformation, a bloodline, or angelic blood. You just need the right mindset and enough mastery of the fundamentals. That’s a door Krillin, of all people, is uniquely qualified to walk through, and it’s worth breaking down exactly how.

Dragon Ball: Real vs. False Ultra Instinct, Explained

Autonomous Ultra Instinct, the ability behind Goku’s silver-haired transformation, is famously one of the hardest techniques in the franchise to learn. It severs the link between thought and movement, letting the body react to danger before the mind even registers it.

Even gods struggle with it; Beerus, who is one of the strongest gods in anime, himself has never fully mastered the form. Reaching its complete state requires unlocking Ultra Instinct Sign first, then refining it into Perfected Ultra Instinct, a process that took Goku years of near-death training to pull off.

But the manga makes a key distinction: it’s possible to use this ability, or its principles, to a limited degree without ever triggering the transformation. It can be called the “False Ultra Instinct,” and Master Roshi already proved it’s real.

Master Roshi dodges attacks from Jiren and a trio of escaped convicts using nothing but decades of accumulated martial arts instinct. He had the pure technique so refined that it fooled Beerus into thinking Roshi had the genuine thing.

Why Krillin Is the Perfect Fit for This Power-up

Krillin began training at Orin Temple at four years old and later studied directly under Roshi, the one character who’s already demonstrated that this ability can be earned through discipline alone rather than divine heritage.

Where Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan lean on transformations tied to Saiyan biology or godly training, Krillin’s entire fighting style has always been built on technique, timing, and reading his opponent: the exact skill set that Roshi already has.

Furthermore, it also solves a real storytelling problem. He has been sidelined for years as everyone else’s power levels spiral further out of reach, with even Piccolo getting a huge upgrade. A Saiyan-style upgrade would feel out of place on a human. A Roshi-taught, technique-based Ultra Instinct doesn’t have that issue.

It would be earned, not inherited, and it would give him a believable reason to matter again the next time Earth’s strongest fighters are training on some other planet. Whether the manga actually takes this step remains to be seen, but the foundations for it are already sitting in plain sight.
