The death of a man found in a downtown home has been deemed a homicide by Toronto Police.

Police said on Friday, Aug. 21, at 1:43 a.m., officers were called to a residence in the McGill St. and Church St. area for a report of a sudden death.

Police said an autopsy was performed on the deceased man, during which signs of trauma to his body were discovered.

Cops identified the victim as Satwant “Sonny” Sangha, 41, of Toronto.

Police said he’s the city’s 23rd homicide victim this year.

Ajax home damaged in drive-by shooting: Police

Durham Regional Police said they’re looking for at least one suspect after a home was damaged in a drive-by shooting in Ajax on Sunday.

Just after midnight, police said officers responded to a call of an armed person in the Dooley Cres. and Biggs Dr. area after receiving reports of gunshots in the vicinity.

Police said officers at the scene found several shell casings and damage to the front of a home, but no injuries were reported.

Man charged in Newmarket break-and-enters: Police

York Regional Police said a man has been charged in a series of commercial break-and-enters in Newmarket and surrounding areas.

Police said earlier this month, officers began investigating more than a dozen break-ins on commercial properties in the early-morning hours between Aug. 3 and Aug. 16.

Police said the suspect forced entry into businesses overnight and targeted safes and cash registers.

Cops said an investigation led them to believe the suspect was responsible for at least 14 commercial break-and-enters in Newmarket.

Police said the suspect was taken into custody last Wednesday, and a search warrant was executed at a Newmarket home where officers seized “cash trays and break and enter tools.”

Jonathan Allan, 46, of Newmarket, is facing more than a dozen charges, including 10 counts of possession of break-in instruments, 12 counts of committing break and enter, and 11 counts of breach of probation.

Police said the accused was on probation at the time of the alleged break-ins.

Police said they’re sharing a photo of the accused as investigators believe more more businesses and members of the community may have been targeted.
