DFB issues statement on ongoing Germany coach talks with Jürgen Klopp

The DFB has confirmed that "an understanding on the key terms of a potential contract" has been reached with Jürgen Klopp.

The German Football Association (DFB) has confirmed positive talks with Jürgen Klopp over his potential appointment as Germany's new head coach.

After Sky Germany reported that the parties had reached an agreement in principle on a contract until 2030, the DFB released a statement saying:

"DFB President Bernd Neuendorf and DFB Vice President Hans-Joachim Watzke held an initial in-depth meeting with Jürgen Klopp yesterday in New York regarding the possible appointment of Klopp as Germany's national team head coach.

“During the constructive discussions, the parties reached an understanding on the key terms of a potential contract.”

Klopp is under contract with Red Bull as their Head of Global Soccer, but securing his release is not expected to be a problem.

“The talks will continue next week. Both sides are confident that the negotiations can ultimately be concluded successfully, subject to reaching an agreement with Klopp's current employer, Red Bull,” the DFB stated.

"Any potential contract must ultimately be approved at a joint meeting of the Supervisory Board and the Shareholders' Assembly of DFB GmbH & Co. KG."

The Germany job became vacant after Julian Nagelsmann stepped down following the national team's disappointing round of 32 exit to Paraguay at the World Cup.
