Every interaction for Demon Slayer characters in the anime was a matter of life and death. The world crafted by Koyoharu Gotouge was merciless, where characters often encountered life-threatening situations. And all they had to fight with these threats were their physical abilities. The demon behind this state of the world was none other than Kibutsuji Muzan.
He treated humans like puppets and created an army of his own, comprising menacing demons. There was one character in the series who could be the perfect successor to Muzan if she was evil. Lady Tamayo was the character who had the potential to match Muzan’s abilities. Even with her exceptional skills, she was an underrated character for the most part.
Everything There’s to Know About Lady Tamayo
Lady Tamayo was introduced to us during the Asakusa Arc. She was among the first few demons who retained their human personalities. Despite her tragic past, she found her way back to a goal that didn’t only serve her but many others. Moreover, she devoted most of her life to it. Tanjiro confided in her and Ushiro about Nezuko’s condition, and she agreed to help them. She asked Tanjiro to collect the blood of the Upper Moons to get a more extensive idea about their true powers.
Tamayo devoted most of her time to research, which made her exceptionally knowledgeable about both demons and humans. Besides understanding anatomy, she also studied medicine. She ended up creating drugs that could weaken demons or strengthen them. Both possibilities proved beneficial to her during battles at different points. Even her Blood Demon Art reflected the same abilities.
She also figured out a way to turn demons back into humans and vice versa. This alone makes her one of the most important characters, narrative-wise. After every fight, Tanjiro would collect the blood of Upper Moon Demons and send them to Tamayo for her research. Her research played an integral role in the final fight against Muzan in the manga. Without her, defeating him would have costed way more lives.
Tamayo Had the Potential to Become the Next Muzan in Demon Slayer
While Tamayo is substantially weaker than Muzan in terms of overall strength, she would have been his perfect heir. Yushiro’s existence perfectly explains why that is the case. To turn humans into demons, Muzan’s blood or his approval was necessary. It was primarily Muzan who could turn humans into demons with his blood and some of the Upper Moons. However, they also need his affirmation to do that in Demon Slayer.
Tamayo was the only character who turned Yushiro into a demon without Muzan’s blood. She even turned Chachamaru into a demon. Additionally, Muzan didn’t have any powers over either of the characters. Yushiro could be slightly violent but Tamayo made sure to discipline him, whenever she deemed necessary. It’s believed that she had her own process of transforming the humans, and it wasn’t through sharing Muzan’s blood.
What’s more interesting about her is that she pulled this off through sheer knowledge. With this ability, she could have created her own army of demons to fight him. Although, she would never do that due to her past. For someone who pulled off such feats, and achieved the abilities unique to Muzan, Tamayo deserves more credit and attention from the fans. Tamayo was the only character who could carry on Muzan’s legacy, but she gladly lacked the necessary evil for it.
