Demichelis pleased with “important response”

RB Leipzig head coach Martin Demichelis was pleased with his side’s convincing victory over HSV on Sunday.

RB Leipzig ran out 5-0 winners over Hamburger SV, producing the perfect response to their midweek 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como.

“After two tough defeats, that was an important response – not just because we won, but because of the way we did it,” said head coach Martin Demichelis following the victory.

Tidiam Gomis and Antonio Nusa had Die Roten Bullen two goals to the good at half-time. Willi Orbán, Christopher Nkunku and Rômulo then wrapped up a comprehensive victory in the second half, with Leipzig also producing a fine defensive display to limit the visitors to barely a sniff at goal, much to Demichelis’ delight.

“We scored five goals and kept a clean sheet. We found it difficult early on, but after the first goal we took more and more control of the game. It was a deserved win in front of our fans.”

There was one concern for RB Leipzig, however, with Assan Ouédraogo forced off in the first half with what appeared to be a recurrence of the shoulder injury that had kept him sidelined for some time.

“The only real disappointment was the injury to Assan Ouédraogo. We’ll have to wait for the results of the tests, but it doesn’t look good. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a midfielder as good as him. He’s an incredible talent. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope it isn’t as serious as it seems.”

Demichelis will now be hoping for positive news following further assessments, with Leipzig facing a trip to Bayer Leverkusen next weekend.
