A resounding 4-0 win over SC Elversberg earlier today was more than enough reason for Martin Demichelis to smile after their day's work.

"After two defeats, we had to get back to winning ways today. We were up against a tricky opponent and the first half wasn't easy.

“The changes we made helped us match their intensity, and our quality made the difference in front of goal,” Demichelis said after the game.

"A lot of people probably thought I was taking too much of a risk [with 8 changes]. But five of the players in today's line-up also played in Munich a week ago.

“I see how hard they work in training. Keeping a clean sheet was important too,” the Argentine explained with a smile.

Making his return from a long-term injury layoff, Christoph Baumgartner was another happy face soaking up the win in the mixed zone.

“First of all, huge credit to Elversberg. They're doing an incredible job and they caused us quite a few problems.

"We made a few adjustments at half time and did a better job of finding space in front of their defence and making runs in behind.

We've also got the individual quality to make the difference. Getting that first goal was crucial.”

“After such a memorable moment for me personally at the Bernabéu, I was really looking forward to playing at home again.

"The most important thing is that we won, but to come back after so long and score straight away is pretty cool," the Austria concluded.

Leipzig's attention will now turn to preparations for their DFB-Pokal second round fixture away to Rot Weiss Essen next Tuesday.
