In an initial news release, the Ontario Provincial Police had labelled the death as suspicious, but in an update on social media on Tuesday, April 14, they said a homicide investigation was underway.

On Sunday, April 12, at 3:15 p.m., OPP officers responded to Last Duel Park, where the injured person was found with life-threatening injuries. The individual was taken to a trauma centre and later pronounced dead.

In Tuesday’s update, police said they believe it was a targeted incident, “with no signs of a broader threat”.

There is no longer a heavy police presence in the area and the park has reopened, they said.

The investigation by the Lanark County OPP detachment was continuing.
