"Could she be any more iconic?" Courteney Cox talks Monica and 30 Years of 'Friends'

As "Friends" celebrates its 30th anniversary, Courteney Cox, who played the beloved Monica Geller, is reflecting on the show's lasting legacy.

Speaking at the star-studded Rock4EB event in Malibu, California, Cox shared her thoughts on the show that catapulted her and her co-stars to international fame.

"It's just insane to me because it feels like time, it goes so fast and I don't realize it," the 60-year-old actress told PEOPLE.

"We used to say, 'Oh, I can't wait for this month' or 'God, it feels like forever.' I would never say that line anymore."

Since its debut on September 22, 1994, "Friends" has remained a staple of popular culture.

The show, centered around six friends navigating life in New York City, quickly became a phenomenon, running for 10 seasons until its finale in 2004.

Cox, alongside Jennifer Aniston, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, and the late Matthew Perry, formed one of television's most iconic ensembles.

Reflecting on her character's lasting popularity, Cox playfully commented, "Monica is alive and well. Are you kidding?"

Though she hasn't watched an episode recently, Cox admitted that whenever she comes across the show, it still pulls her in.

"That show is incredible. Every joke holds up, all the characters are just so amazing, and we [had] the best writers in the world," she said, adding that she feels fortunate the show resonates with fans across multiple generations.

However, when asked about the possibility of a reboot, Cox seemed hesitant.

With series creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane having discussed pitches for a new version revolving around the characters' children, Cox finds it hard to imagine recapturing the original magic.

"It's hard to try to redo anything. Anything with 're' in front of it with this group... I think it's so special," she explained.

Despite the anniversary being a time to celebrate, the milestone comes a year after the passing of Matthew Perry, who played Chandler Bing.

Perry, who died in October 2023 at the age of 53, struggled publicly with addiction but was remembered fondly by his castmates and the show's creators.

Cox and the rest of the "Friends" cast recently reconnected to mourn Perry's loss, and his absence adds a bittersweet note to the 30th anniversary celebrations.
