Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman tweeted as much on Wednesday afternoon.
A few minutes later, Friedman said on Sportsnet’s free-agent panel that the contract is for three years with an average annual value of $7 million US.
The Leafs and Bobrovsky had been linked in speculation for several weeks, as interest from Toronto general manager John Chayka was said to be high.
In Bobrovsky, the Leafs get a future Hall of Famer, though one who is coming off a season in which he had an .877 save percentage with the Florida Panthers, his worst mark in the National Hockey League.
There’s also Bobrovsky’s age, as he turns 38 in September, to consider.
The Leafs, though, are in win-now mode, and Bobrovsky, a two-time Stanley Cup winner and two-time Vezina Trophy winner, gives them a starting goaltender who potentially could lead them on a long playoff run.
The signing reunites Bobrovsky with former Panthers teammates Anthony Stolarz and Steven Lorentz in Toronto.
