Boruto: Konoha Officially Finds Its Itachi Uchiha Replacement in New Storyline

The Uchiha name has always carried the impossible weight of choosing between family and the Hidden Leaf. Itachi accepted eternal hatred to prevent a civil war, while Sasuke abandoned the village more than once in pursuit of what he believed was justice. Now, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex has revived that same heartbreaking cycle from an entirely new angle.

With Omnipotence rewriting reality, Konoha once again believes an Uchiha has abandoned it. But this time it’s Sasuke. Ironically, history continues to misunderstand those trying the hardest to save everyone.

Boruto Finally Gives Konoha the Selfless Uchiha It Lost With Itachi

Itachi’s legacy was never about possessing the Mangekyo Sharingan or defeating impossible opponents. His true legacy was carrying the unbearable burden of protecting Konoha while allowing the village to despise him. That is precisely the position Sasuke finds himself in during Boruto: Two Blue Vortex.

After Eida’s Omnipotence rewrote the world’s memories, Sasuke’s own memories told him Boruto had murdered Naruto. Yet despite every piece of evidence pointing toward Boruto’s guilt, Sasuke chose to trust Sarada instead, leading him to rescue Boruto and leave Konoha as a rogue ninja once again. From that moment onward, Sasuke willingly accepted becoming the village’s enemy.

The parallel with Itachi is difficult to ignore. Itachi slaughtered the Uchiha Clan to prevent civil war, accepting eternal infamy so Konoha could survive. Sasuke similarly abandoned his reputation and sided with the one person the village considered its greatest criminal. In fact, in Naruto Chapter 694, Sasuke himself acknowledged that Itachi was the true Shadow Hokage.

Even Sasuke’s words to Boruto in Two Blue Vortex Chapter 5 before he was turned into a Divine Tree reinforced that similarity. Rather than worrying about clearing his own name, he instructed Boruto to survive, grow stronger, and continue fighting.

“There’s no way we can win against this guy for now… so run! No matter what, survive. Master every aspect I taught you, and there should be no one that can stand against you. I’ll leave Sarada to you, Boruto.”

Like Itachi placing Sasuke above his own legacy, Sasuke prioritized the next generation over his own reputation. Ironically, Sasuke spent much of Naruto resenting the impossible burden Itachi carried. In Boruto, he unknowingly inherited it.

Why Konoha Now Sees Sasuke as the Village’s Latest Traitor

From Konoha’s perspective, Sasuke’s actions are impossible to justify. He ignored overwhelming evidence against Boruto, abandoned the Hidden Leaf, and aided the man believed responsible for Naruto’s disappearance. To the Leaf, Sasuke appears to have relapsed into the same rogue ninja who once attacked the Five Kage Summit. However, he isn’t betraying Konoha. His faith in Sarada led him to ignore his own memories. That creates one of the greatest ironies in the franchise.

While Naruto and the higher-ups eventually learned the truth about Itachi and honored his memory, his true sacrifice remained classified to the general public. Naruto himself made sure the sacrifices of the previous generation would never be forgotten. Yet only a few years later, the village has fallen into the exact same cycle, branding another Uchiha a traitor without understanding why he left. Sarada undoubtedly carries Itachi’s compassion and unwavering belief in protecting those she loves. However, it is Sasuke who has inherited the burden that truly defined his brother.

In that sense, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex hasn’t simply found Konoha another selfless Uchiha. The tragedy is that because Itachi’s truth was kept a secret, Konoha remains blind to the sacrifices the Uchiha continue to make for them. The only difference is that this time, the man carrying that burden is the younger brother who once vowed never to become him.
