Tite Kubo’s Bleach has finally gotten its old fame and recognition back with the recent release of the Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War part 3 anime series. The series has put a special focus on the battle between the Soul Reapers and the Quincies as the Captains of the Gotei 13 try to save the entire Bleach universe from the wrath of Yhwach and his army.
While these battles certainly entice fans with their stunning storyline and unique animation style, the latest one broke their hearts as it led to the death of Nemu Kurotsuchi, the lieutenant of Captain Mayuri Kurotsuchi’s division. Fans saw Nemu sacrifice herself in order to save her captain, who had a much more important role to play in the later part of the story.
While the battle was heartbreaking, it was still appreciated by Bleach fans solely because of the accuracy that was portrayed in the episode. The fight scene was exactly copied from the manga series, and it was an achievement considering the fact that Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War has been making a lot of changes within the original storyline.
The changes between Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War anime and manga
When the Bleach manga series finally came to an end, the conclusion of the story was highly criticized as it was rushed by Tite Kubo. Thus, fans expected that the manga creator would bring some modifications to the narrative of the anime series, and that’s what he did. Kubo personally got involved with the anime production and made the changes that were necessary to complete the story.
Many new aspects were introduced in the story, like the revelation of the first Gotei 13 squad and Shinji Hirako’s Bankai. Also, some major elements were even removed, like all the major comedic plots, as they extended the series unnecessarily. These changes more or less were inflicted to make the story worthy of the hype, and it indeed helped a lot.
However, there were still some who were cryptic about the modifications and believed that the original storyline would suffice for the conclusion of Bleach. Thus, the entire fanbase was divided, as there was still a possibility that the changes by the creators might affect the Bleach series negatively.
The accuracy of Nemu’s battle was needed
While the changes certainly affected the Bleach storyline in a major way, there were still some scenes that were adapted exactly like they were created within the manga. The biggest example of this was seen during the latest Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War episode, where Nemu and Mayuri fought against the left hand of the Soul King, also known as Pernida Parnkgjas.
Pernida was one of Yhwach’s elite guards who were tasked with stopping the Gotei 13 captains. When the battle started, Mayuri was the only one fighting against Pernida, and he was dominating the battle.

She gave her all to protect her captain and, in the end, sacrificed herself to defeat Pernida. Nemu’s moments from the battle were replicated exactly like they were drawn in the manga, which in a way brought the emotional aspects of her character development. Thus, even though her character was killed, it made the Bleach episode iconic for its accuracy.
Bleach is available to watch on Hulu.
