At the moment, the Black Clover anime is on indefinite hiatus, with new chapters of the manga releasing on a quarterly schedule. At this pace, it might even take another decade for the series to finish. Black Clover fans can now finally understand the pain undergone by the Hunter x Hunter fandom.

The Illusive Black Clover Anime

The Black Clover anime’s last episode aired on March 30, 2021. Episode 170 did not end the series, but it was the last that fans got to see of their favorite anime. The series did not end with any announcement for a continuation or a sequel. For the longest time, fans thought that the anime had been canceled but that is a simple misinformation.

After episode 170, the Black Clover anime went into hiatus because it had caught up to the number of source chapters that were available at the time. Yuki Tabata, as well as the anime staff, decided that they did not want to create fillers to extend the series till more chapters were available. Thus, the anime went on hiatus with absolutely no updates.

In June 2023, the Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King movie was released which brought fans a bit of relief. It was an original movie whose plot was created by Yuki Tabata. Yet, more than a year has passed since its debut, and fans still have no update on another film, anime season, or spinoff adaptation.

Black Clover Manga’s Release Schedule is Enough to Make Fans Cry

Ever since its debut in 2015, Black Clover had been a weekly manga that was released in the Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. However, the continuous stress from being a mangaka as well as the strict deadlines, began to take a toll on Yuki Tabata. The creator had been struggling with health issues for quite some time.

In August 2023, it was announced that Yuki Tabata was switching magazines, and Black Clover would be serialized in Jump Giga rather than Weekly Shonen Jump. The schedule of the manga was also shifted to better accommodate the author’s health conditions. Thus, new chapters of the manga are out every four months instead of the usual weekly release schedule.

While fans agree that Yuki Tabata needs as much rest as he can get, some are bound to feel dissatisfied by the extremely few number of chapters that they will receive. It is admittedly the worst time to be a Black Clover fan because neither the anime nor the manga is ongoing at a satisfactory release pace.

The pain of Black Clover fans can only be understood by the Hunter x Hunter fandom. Yoshihiro Togashi’s health also prevents him from creating and releasing chapters like usual. Thus, after plenty of hiatuses, which eventually made fans lose hope, the author seems to be finally back to creating the manga, but at a much slower pace so that he doesn’t overexert himself.
