Beth, played by Kelly Reilley, is someone who needs a redemption arc, where she doesn’t lose her edge, but possibly develops more depth and balance. There’s only one woman in the Dutton lineage who can inspire Beth to become a more evolved version of herself, so let’s dive in and find out who this iconic figure is.

Could 1883’s Elsa’s influence redeem Yellowstone’s Beth?

Elsa Dutton from 1883, essayed by Isabel May is Beth’s ancestor. She was the epitome of resilience and compassion and knew how to be strong as well as vulnerable at the same time. She was nicknamed “lightning of the yellow hair,” because her spirit was wild and untamed.

Her journey happened to be tragically short, but Elsa was of a fearless nature and had immense emotional wisdom. She had the ability to remain tender and optimistic even when the odds were stacked against her, or even if she was losing. Elsa was one of the most inspiring Duttons to grace our screens.

She stood up to her Aunt Claire’s ways and risked her life to protect the caravan, and along the way, Elsa turned into a true leader. She was also open to different cultures, which was evident from her love story with the Comanche warrior Sam. The most unforgettable moment was when she got shot by a Lakota arrow, but still kept walking towards her enemies.

Why a ‘Beth & Rip’ Spin-off could work

One can say that in many ways, Elsa embodies the qualities that Beth lacks. The latter’s abrasiveness and emotional instability are in stark contrast with the former’s ability to channel the right emotions when needed for a purpose. While Elsa is bold and free, Beth is shown to be guarded and destructive.

So a potential spin-off where Beth rediscovers her ancestor’s quality within herself, giving her a glimpse of the true potential she holds could be more than amazing for the franchise. But it would be incomplete without Rip Wheeler by her side, the man who’s her moral anchor, whom she shares rare moments of tenderness with.

Perhaps a plotline where Beth comes across old journals by Elsa herself, or someone else’s recorded document could kickstart the spinoff. By integrating Elsa’s influence, Beth’s character could gain the depth and redemption that fans crave. We need to see the untamed beast who transforms into someone profoundly inspiring.

You can watch Yellowstone on Peacock and Paramount Network, whereas 1883 is available on Paramount+.
