Abrams is one of the best tanks in Deadlock right now. The character has been built to absorb damage and force enemies into fights they would rather avoid. His kit gives him a great combination of sustain, crowd control, mobility, and close-range attacks that give you a ton of flexibility.
Deadlock is officially back.
Valve just dropped the massive “City Never Sleeps” update, adding:
-six new heroes
-major visual overhaul of the map and neutral units
-HUD improvements
Players immediately came flooding back. Deadlock pushed past its previous 171,490-player… pic.twitter.com/dCmgK6fn0o
If you want to get the best out of him, you’ll want to take advantage of his close-range damage and give him enough durability and utility to stay in the middle of team fights. Valve‘s new update also buffed Infernal Resilience, increasing its damage regeneration bonus, while reducing the duration of Seismic Impact’s Unstoppable effect.

For your items, you’ll want a mix of weapon, melee, Spirit, and defensive items on Abrams. The exact order can change depending on the lane, but this is a general priority list that you can follow.
Early Game
- Extra Regen
- Close Quarters
- Monster Rounds
- Melee Lifesteal
- Stalker
- Melee Charge
Extra Regen gives Abrams more sustain during the laning phase, while Close Quarters directly complements his preference for fighting at short range. Monster Rounds improves his ability to clear waves and maintain farm.
With Melee Lifesteal, you can follow up his crowd-control abilities with heavy attacks. Melee Charge also works well with this, and Stalker gives you useful mobility for closing distance and setting up engagements.
If you have a tough lane, you can consider defensive items like Spirit Shielding, Healing Booster, or Extra Health over the more offensive ones.
Mid Game
- Bullet Resist Shredder
- Warp Stone
- Hunter’s Aura
- Superior Duration
- Spirit Snatch
- Witchmail
Bullet Resist Shredder helps Abrams convert his abilities into stronger weapon follow-ups, while Warp Stone gives him another way to enter or reposition during fights.
Hunter’s Aura is good when you’re fighting around several enemies because its close-range debuff complements his frontline role. Superior Duration also improves the usefulness of his crowd control.
For a more Spirit-focused approach, Spirit Snatch works well with his abilities and melee attacks. Witchmail provides another major power spike as matches progress.
Late Game
- Boundless Spirit
- Escalating Exposure
- Transcendent Cooldown
- Phantom Strike
- Plated Armor
- Colossus
Boundless Spirit gives Abrams more Spirit Power and regeneration, improving the impact of his abilities. Escalating Exposure can further increase his Spirit-based damage when its resistance reduction is stacked.
Transcendent Cooldown is valuable because Abrams wants his abilities available as frequently as possible. Phantom Strike provides additional mobility and can be especially useful against elusive or airborne targets.
Defensive items should be adjusted according to the enemy composition. Plated Armor is valuable against teams that rely heavily on weapon damage, while Colossus can provide additional durability when Abrams needs to survive extended engagements.
Abrams Ability Upgrade Order
This is the most-used upgrade order that you can follow:
- Siphon Life
- Shoulder Charge
- Infernal Resilience
- Seismic Impact
Best Abrams Combos in Deadlock
Image Credit: ValveIn general, what you want to be doing with Abrams is get close to enemies, crowd control them, and immediately convert that opening into a kill for your team.
Shoulder Charge → Wall Stun → Heavy Melee
This is the easiest combo you can do. Use Shoulder Charge to collide with an enemy and push them toward a wall. If they hit it, they are stunned, giving you time to close the gap and land a charged heavy melee. Follow the melee with Case Closed shots at point-blank range.
Seismic Impact → Siphon Life → Melee
Against multiple enemies, use Seismic Impact to land in the middle of the enemy team and stun nearby targets. Immediately activate Siphon Life to damage surrounding enemies while recovering health.
Once the stun expires, continue with heavy melee attacks and close-range shotgun fire. This combination lets Abrams turn his ultimate’s crowd control into sustained pressure rather than treating Seismic Impact purely as an initiation tool.
Shoulder Charge → Siphon Life → Shotgun
When a wall isn’t available, Abrams can still use Shoulder Charge to close distance. Activate Siphon Life after reaching the target, then stay close while firing Case Closed.
Because Siphon Life doesn’t prevent Abrams from moving, shooting, dashing, jumping, or using other abilities, it can remain active while he continues attacking.
With Abrams, you always want to dictate the distance of a fight. Use the laning phase to farm aggressively without taking unnecessary damage, then look for rotations where an isolated enemy can be trapped by Shoulder Charge.
During team fights, avoid diving so far ahead that your team cannot follow. Abrams is tanky, but you still need to set up for your team with his stuns and crowd control. If you’ve ever played a diving tank in a game like Marvel Rivals, this will be very similar for you.
