The verbal spat happened last Tuesday when Cumberbatch was approached by a masked man who accused him of running a red light near King’s Cross station, according to a bystander who filmed the incident.

The onlooker told U.K.’s The Sun newspaper that the Doctor Strange star was riding his cargo bike in the bike lane, with the other cyclist following behind him.

In the video, Cumberbatch is seen walking over to the other cyclist, sparking a heated argument between the two that reportedly lasted about 10 minutes.

“You’re deluded, you’re lying. I was behind you the entire time,” the man tells Cumberbatch.

“Dude, you verbally abused me,” the actor replies, leading the man to say sarcastically, “Oh no, I verbally abused the guy who completely repeatedly broke the law.”

Cumberbatch then admits, “I did it once,” while the man goes on to add, “And then you went through a zebra crossing, you went through three lights.”

The actor quickly says, “No, I did not.”

The altercation ended after the man left the scene, but Cumberbatch stayed behind to pose for selfies with two fans, according to the onlooker who recorded the exchange.

“It was crazy. It was such a pompous road rage, it almost felt like it had been staged,” the witness said.

“Benedict still managed to charm everyone watching even though he was having a meltdown. They went at each other about five times.

“Everyone was just stood there with jaws dropped. These school kids asked ‘is that Dr Strange?’ and asked for a picture with him. Benedict said ‘not at the moment, in a minute’; he was lovely with them, they were awe-struck.”
