Augsburg top Bundesliga table for first time after ruining Hütter's second home debut

With Augsburg’s excellent start to the season against Schalke, Manuel Baum only made one change that saw the injured Anton Kade replaced by debutant Arijon Ibrahimović. Frankfurt's Adi Hütter made his second home début after last week's 3-3 draw with Union Berlin. 

Ritsu Doan was straight back to the lineup after deciding against a move to Saudi Arabia, while Lillian Brassier made his first appearance in defense. Mario Götze was the third change from the entertaining draw as the experienced midfielder came in place of Fares Chaibi.

Younes Ebnoutalib started the season with a hat-trick, but it was the turn of Jonathan Burkardt to put the hosts ahead here in the sixth minute. Ebnoutalib was once again pivotal in the final third as he provided the assist for his fellow attacker.

Finn Dahmen denied Can Uzun from doubling Frankfurt's lead minutes later as the hosts started the game on the right foot. Summer signing Hennes Behrens had an impressive début for Augsburg last week, and he also created their first chance here in the 25th minute.

Ebnoutalib had a couple of great chances to add to his tally before the break as Dahmen also had to make another decent stop to thwart Raphael Onyedika, who was making his home début in Frankfurt's midfield. Fabian Rieder’s injury-time free-kick was Augsburg's best chance of the half as the Swiss set-piece specialist narrowly missed the target.

Baum didn't make any changes at the start of the second-half, but they somehow found the net twice inside the first two minutes. The FC Bayern loanee Ibrahimović got his debut goal before Robin Fellhauer put them ahead against all odds. 

Ibrahimović replaced Kade after the winger suffered an injury after last week's match-winning performance, and he did the same in his first appearance for the Bavarians. Noah Atubolu was supposed to solve Frankfurt's goalkeeping cross, but he was at fault for Fellhauer’s second goal as he slipped from Ibrahimović’s harmless attempt.

The former Freiburg shot-stopper prevented a third goal with a decent save from Michael Gregoritsch’s effort, but Alexis Claude-Maurice sealed the points 25 minutes from time with his first strike of the season. Rieder did finish the game with a spectacular free-kick strike as Augsburg started the season with two three-goal margin victories.

As the result, they climbed to the top of the Bundesliga standings for the very first time. Surprisingly, their seven goals are scored by seven different players. Meanwhile, Frankfurt conceded seven goals in their first two games after ending pre-season with a 7-0 defeat to Brentford.
