Anton Kade shares delight after his first Bundesliga brace

Anton Kade scored the first two goals in Augsburg’s massive win away at Werder Bremen.

FC Augsburg won away at Werder Bremen in successive seasons after their 3-1 success on Saturday. Anton Kade was the star of the match with his first-ever Bundesliga brace. Kristijan Jakic, who replaced Han-Noah Massengo before the break to avoid the risk of a second booking, scored the third after the break.

“I’m really happy to have scored my first Bundesliga brace,” said the Germany U21 international after the game. “The three points are massive. We scored at exactly the right moments. There’s a really strong connection in the team at the moment. But we’ll only see where we really stand at the end of the season.”

Since Manuel Baum’s return to the club, Augsburg have picked up 30 points from 20 games. The 46-year-old was at the helm on both occasions the modest club scored three goals at Weserstadion (3-0 win in 2017).

“It was a tough game, but we dealt with it better as the game went on,” said the caretaker manager. “The positive thing was that we were extremely ruthless today and scored two really good goals before the break. The team deserves huge credit for that performance. It showed the quality and depth we have in the squad.”

Augsburg still have a chance to compete for European places as they reach the 40-point mark before their games against two bottom-half teams, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Union Berlin.
