Aion 2 reaches its full global launch on October 5, 2026, with Advance Access already open, and the first decision every new player has to make is which of the eight starting classes to commit to. This guide ranks all of them from strongest to weakest and gives each class its own section covering its role, weapon, strengths, weaknesses, and the type of player it suits.
Each class in this list was judged on five different criteria: how well it handles solo progression, how much it contributes in organized group content, how it fares in PvP, how forgiving it is when you make mistakes, and how much parties actively want one in the roster.

The Spiritmaster wields an orb and fights alongside summoned elemental spirits, wearing enemies down with damage over time and control effects. It is the widest swing in the roster and is often praised for its solo play, but it appears less often in the highest-clearing groups, since managing a pet, your own casts, and utility asks for a lot of effort.
- Strengths: A toolkit that can stand on its own, enjoyable for solo players.
- Weaknesses: High complexity for a class that is currently considered to be one of the simpler classes in top-end group content, and solo comfort does not automatically make you valuable to a party.
It’s best for players who love summoner playstyles and are willing to accept a less certain place in the meta.
7. Chanter
The Chanter is a staff-wielding hybrid support whose identity revolves around mantras, a set of group-wide stat boosts. It can add damage and some sustain on top of that, which makes it flexible, but its personal numbers stay modest. It performs best when it steps into close range rather than hanging back, and groups rarely bring more than one support of this kind.
- Strengths: Boosts the whole party and is versatile in what it can contribute, making it valuable in organized PvP groups.
- Weaknesses: It does not match a dedicated healer or tank, and most of its value is hard to see in a personal damage total.
6. Sorcerer
The Sorcerer is the spellbook-based ranged mage, built around burst windows and crowd control with area damage. It is among the most debated classes in the roster, with ratings that range from top tier to near the bottom depending on the list. The reason is that its strongest output comes from standing still to cast, while harder encounters keep demanding movement.
- Strengths: Big damage in short windows along with strong area coverage and useful control tools.
- Weaknesses: Low health and defense, and a damage routine that collapses once something closes the distance.
5. Assassin
The Assassin is the dagger-wielding melee specialist, using stealth and mobility to deliver heavy burst damage. It has a very steep gap between average and expert play, and it might just rank at the very top for PvP and boss damage depending on the situation.
- Strengths: Exceptional single-target burst and fast access to targets. It’s also strong in duels and ambushes.
- Weaknesses: It needs precise positioning behind enemies and offers little room for error.
4. Templar
The Templar is the main tank, built around a longsword and shield. Its job is to hold enemy attention and time defensive abilities against big hits. It does not top damage charts, and that’s okay, because a good tank makes every other class in the party perform better.
- Strengths: This one is an unmistakable tanking role and has tools that protect the whole group.
- Weaknesses: It has the weakest damage potential in the lineup, plus a heavy burden of responsibility. You are expected to know the encounter better than anyone else.
3. Cleric
The Cleric is the game’s dedicated healer, armed with a mace. Its personal damage is some of the lowest of the eight, and that is by design, yet it is one of the most valuable seats in a party. In endgame group content, several rankings place it in the top tier, while for solo leveling it is rated much lower, so the class rewards patience early on.
- Strengths: The strongest healing and protection in the roster.
- Weaknesses: Slow and low-damage when playing alone, and the role carries real pressure because a healing mistake can end a run for everyone.
2. Ranger
The Ranger fights with a bow from a distance, and its main selling point is consistency. Because it can keep attacking while it moves, it takes less damage during phases that push melee classes off their targets.
- Strengths: Offers a steady damage output, safer positioning, and easy-to-read fights from outside melee range. It’s also one of the more forgiving classes to learn.
- Weaknesses: It adds little to the group’s survival compared with a tank, healer, or support. Poor spacing is still punished, and a few lists rank it a notch lower because of its narrower team utility.
1. Gladiator
The Gladiator is a greatsword-wielding frontline fighter that sits between a pure tank and a pure damage dealer. It earns the top spot because it brings several things at once: strong sustained melee damage, wide-area attacks, the ability to stagger and control enemies, and enough toughness to step into the tank role when a pull goes wrong.
- Strengths: Reliable damage in both solo and party play, strong against groups of enemies, durable enough to survive mistakes and is flexible in what it can do for a team.
- Weaknesses: It has to stay close to bosses, so dangerous mechanics force constant repositioning. It also cannot fully replace a dedicated tank or healer in the hardest content.
Best Aion 2 Classes for Beginners
Best Aion 2 Classes | Credit: NCFor players new to the game or to MMOs in general, Ranger and Gladiator are the easiest to enjoy. The Ranger’s distance gives you time to learn enemy attacks, and the Gladiator’s toughness forgives sloppy positioning. Templar and Cleric are also good learning roles and make finding a group easy, but they come with the responsibility of keeping others safe, which can feel heavy on day one. Assassin and Sorcerer are the hardest starting choices because both depend on timing and positioning that take practice to develop.
So far, no class-change systems have been announced for the global version. If you plan to do so, then try creating a new character if you want to try a different class.
