Reacher star Alan Ritchson has been touted as one of the frontrunners for playing Bruce Wayne / Batman in James Gunn’s new DCU, which reboots the franchise. However, another actor has now thrown his hat into the ring to portray the Dark Knight on the big screen with the DCU Batman’s existence confirmed in Creature Commandos.

Actor Scott Eastwood, son of acclaimed actor-director Clint Eastwood, admitted that he was interested in playing Batman. Given Eastwood’s physical resemblance to the comic book character, he could emerge as a strong contender for the role, giving tough competition to Ritchson. Here is everything you need to know about what Eastwood had to say.

Scott Eastwood is interested in playing Batman in James Gunn’s DCU

As James Gunn continues to build his new DCU, Reacher star Alan Ritchson has spoken about his desire to play Bruce Wayne / Batman in the franchise. However, Clint Eastwood’s son, Scott Eastwood, who previously appeared in DCEU’s Suicide Squad, also expressed an interest in the role.

During a recent interview with ScreenRant, Eastwood spoke about joining the rebooted DCU. When asked about which character he would like to portray, the Fury actor admitted to being a Batman fan.

I think he’s the most interesting character because he is living double lives that are kind of a little bit more intriguing to me than some of the other ones. Yeah, I don’t know. There’s something cool about that character.

Eastwood made the above statement, calling Batman his favorite DC character and suggesting that he was interested in playing the Dark Knight on the big screen.

Given Eastwood’s comments, it is safe to say that he could be a major contender for the role. His past acting experience, stature, and physique are all positives for his claim to playing Batman. As a result, Eastwood could prove to be a good choice for the role alongside Ritchson.

James Gunn reflects on introducing DCU Batman in Creature Commandos

While Gunn’s DCU is miles away from a live-action Batman project, the character recently debuted in episodes of the animated series Creature Commandos. Batman first appeared in a cameo during an apocalyptic vision of the future.

The character makes his first formal appearance in the sixth episode, where Batman is involved in capturing Doctor Phosphorus. However, Batman mostly appears in silhouette as his appearance, primarily his face and suit remain obscured by shadows.

That’s just a way to introduce that Batman is a part of this universe, he’s an important part of this universe, and he has an impact on it, including defeating pretty dangerous, scary, people like Phosphorus, who’s pretty tough.

Gunn made the above statement (in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes), explaining the particular approach to introducing Batman in the DCU.

From Gunn’s words, it is clear that Gunn and his team were reluctant to commit to a specific look for Batman’s appearance in the animated series before an actor was cast to play the role in the wider DCU. Nonetheless, with the character’s recent debut, a full live-action appearance cannot be too far.

Creature Commandos is streaming on Max.
