A Titan and the Godfather of the anime and manga industry, Akira Toriyama has given us Dragon Ball, the most popular Shonen series of all time. In the four-decade-long run of the franchise, several characters have been introduced, but none of them could even come close to the popularity of Son-Goku.
The protagonist not only stands out in the series but also in the whole anime scene, as he is the most globally recognized character. A major reason behind the enormous fan following of the character is how the viewers have grown up with him.
Toriyama-Sensei has featured the Saiyan as a young boy having a family of his own over the tenure of the series, even becoming a grandfather. As a result, fans have felt close to him, but as they grow older, they often wonder how their favorite Saiyan will look when the series finally concludes.
Akira Toriyama Showcases How Goku Looked as a Senior Citizen
Akira Toriyama’s Dragon Ball has always been a fan favorite that has featured the seamless energy of Son-Goku and his adventures. He would be constantly inspiring the viewers to break past his limits by achieving a new SSJ form, resonating with the indomitable spirit of a Saiyan.
While fans have grown up watching Kakarot as the savior of Earth, who would first put it at risk by doing something silly like asking Grand Zeno to organize The Tournament of Power, they often wonder how he would look like an old man.
Fans do not have to keep their heads scratching because before Akira Toriyama passed away, he answered the fans’ queries by drawing an illustration of how our beloved protagonist would look like an old-timer.
The legendary manga artist featured Goku in his iconic orange and blue outfit with a blue belt and wristbands. However, instead of black hair, he was all grey with a bushy mustache and held a staff while showcasing other features of old age, which included wrinkles.
The image got the fans excited and melancholic, as the image reminds the fans that the day is not far when the age-old series will conclude.
Dragon Ball Fans React to Old Goku
The allure following Kakarot in his old age was immeasurable as a fan shared Toriyama-Sensei’s drawing in r/dbz, stating, “Googled “Old Goku”. Does anyone know what it says?!”
The OG fans were excited, as they do not see him as a warrior but as a mentor who guides them to greater wisdom that has spanned for several decades. The fans commented,
The very thought of Goku transforming into a Super Saiyan for the last time would get the fans immensely disheartened because the show has been a part of our childhood. Hence, the very thought of the last chapter of the manga would surely ruin the day of the ardent fans of the show.
Nevertheless, that day is far away, because before the mangaka passed away unexpectedly at the age of 68, he was working on Dragon Ball DAIMA. The show is going to be a canon series and is going to feature the Z-Warriors in their kid form and will go on an adventure of their own.
Though the exact date has not been announced, the series will be released in October 2024. With just 2 months away from release, fans are delighted to watch the upcoming series.
Dragon Ball Super can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
