Actor Adam Driver has finally confirmed his long-awaited role in the “Heat” sequel. Based on the 2022 book by Michael Mann and Meg Gardiner, the movie jumps through time and serves as both a sequel and a prequel to the original 1995 crime film. The “Star Wars” alum recently confirmed his role in the upcoming film and told fans how Mann is doing after a recent shooting accident at a Los Angeles gun range.
Adam Driver Finally Confirms His Role In ‘Heat 2’
SteveSands/NewYorkNewswire/MEGAAfter weeks of speculation, the “Girls” alum finally announced he’ll play Otis Wardell, the film’s primary antagonist, in the “Heat” sequel. The character is described as the psychopathic leader of an ultraviolent gang of home invaders, and many fans are eager to see what new dimensions Driver brings to the role as he takes it from the page to the big screen.
Driver confirmed his role during an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, where he joked, “I think I can say that,” after being asked about the rumors that he would play the movie’s lead villain. He then joked, “But I’ll find out pretty soon,” if he wasn’t supposed to say anything at all.
Driver Is Eager To Work With Michael Mann Again
ZUMAPRESS.com / MEGAThe “House of Gucci” actor previously worked with Mann on the 2023 biopic, “Ferrari.”
“Heat is a masterpiece,” Driver told Eisen. “I love Michael, I loved working with him [on] Ferrari, but working on this? I’m excited. The cast is so awesome.”
Leonardo DiCaprio will reportedly take over for the late Val Kilmer as Chris Shiherlis, while Christian Bale has been cast as Lt. Vincent Hanna and Stephen Graham as Neil McCauley.
He also said that Mann’s recent shooting accident at a Los Angeles gun range hasn’t halted production in any way. He revealed that production starting in December “was already part of the plan.”
As for the director’s health, Driver said that the 83-year-old is doing “good.” Driver went on to say, “I texted him. He immediately responded. He was at work the next day.”
‘Heat 2’ Will Be ‘More Condensed’ Than The Book
SteveSands/NewYorkNewswire/MEGAMany have expressed concerns online that the frequent filming delays were due to the difficulties of creating both a prequel and a sequel within one movie. However, Driver didn’t seem to be that concerned.
“As a script, it’s even more condensed and streamlined,” he explained. “Obviously, in the book you have to have a lot of descriptors, but with the film it’s just a missile.”
Although fans are excited to see the “Paterson” actor appearing in “Heat,” many are disappointed that he said he wouldn’t be returning to a galaxy far, far away during the same interview.

Adam Driver Shares Disappointing ‘Star Wars’ Update
MEGAIn October 2025, Driver revealed he had been working with director Steven Soderbergh on a film set after the events of 2019’s “The Rise of Skywalker.” The film, which would have been called “The Hunt for Ben Solo,” would have featured Driver’s character coming back to life in some way.
During his recent appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Driver confirmed that his time in a galaxy far, far away was over. “It’s over. No more ‘Star Wars.’ We tried,” he said. “We tried to do one more. But they were like, ‘No, he’s dead.’”
“We worked on it for a few years, really and earnestly, for two years,” he continued. “We got a script together that was really good with Scott Burns and Rebecca Blunt and Soderbergh and I; we all worked on it.”
Adam Driver Praises The Fans’ Response To ‘The Hunt For Ben Solo’
Although fans were disappointed to hear Driver’s candid comments, they were elated to hear the actor’s appreciation for the fans’ attempts to get Disney to revive the movie.
“The fans’ response to it, though, was pretty incredible,” Driver added. “I didn’t expect that it was going to be billboards and people flying planes and things like that. That was pretty cool.”
Unfortunately, Driver did say that “the ship has sailed” when it comes to the scrapped film. Many fans are reading between the lines and hoping that Ben Solo’s return will be worked into the next “Star Wars” trilogy, but that remains to be seen.
As for now, fans can look forward to seeing Driver return in the “Heat” sequel. Production is expected to begin in December 2026.
