The 19-year-old driver accused of a fatal hit-and-run that killed a crossing guard in Barrhaven on March 23 is now facing an additional charge, according to Ottawa police.

Xzander Wright is now facing a charge of dangerous operation causing death, police confirmed Wednesday. Police say the charge was laid on April 17.

Wright was previously charged with failure to stop after an accident causing death after Peter Clark, 55, was struck at about 8:20 a.m. on Monday, March 23, at the intersection of Cedarview Road and Kennevale Drive, near Mary Honeywell Elementary School.

Clark was taken to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

On Tuesday, March 24, multiple police cruisers could be seen outside a residence in the area, just steps away from the school. A black Toyota Tundra with a “HAIL SATAN” decal across the windshield was parked in the driveway. Police later confirmed that the truck was connected to the hit-and-run investigation.

Wright is also facing impaired driving charges in Brockville. He pleaded not guilty to those charges on Friday, March 27, and the matter is scheduled to go to trial later this year.
