Jason Statham has done it again. The actor best known for “Punch first, talk later” roles is back in action and this time, he is leading a peaceful life as a construction worker. Directed by Suicide Squad’s David Ayer, A Working Man features an impressive cast including Jason Statham, David Harbour, Michael Peña, and more. The idea is simple – Jason Statham lives a normal life, gets provoked, he turns the world upside down. Nothing we haven’t seen before.

However, it looks like the netizens are all in for another one of these classic Jason Statham action flicks. We guess there is just something about the actor playing a no-nonsense guy who can take down the goons and make it back home in time for dinner. Clearly, Jason Statham isn’t getting the Dwayne Johnson treatment from the fans.

Whether it is The Transporter (2002) where a skilled driver/British mercenary gets himself caught in the middle of a human trafficking plot or Homefront (2013) where an ex-DEA agent wants to live a quiet life but ends up doing anything but that, Jason Statham sure has mastered the art of playing the no-nonsense badass you don’t want to mess with.

Now, the man is returning to the screens in March with A Working Man where he plays the role of an ex-Royal Marines combo wanting to be lowkey and lead a peaceful life as a construction worker.

However, when his boss’ daughter gets taken by human traffickers, he goes back to his old ways and shows the villains how it’s done. To be honest, it is quite predictable. Statham’s character is triggered, he hunts down the bad guys, takes on all of them singlehandedly, wins, and saves the day.

It’s basically the same formula wrapped in new packaging and we are so here for it. While the ending can be guessed easily, fans are still going to watch the flick. Why? Well, they aren’t here for the plot, they’re simply here for Statham being Statham. After all, he is a genre in himself.

On the other hand, Dwayne Johnson gets slammed on social media for doing similar films over and over again. With films like San Andreas, Rampage, or Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Johnson has made a career out of playing larger-than-life characters in high-stakes adventures. From battling giant animals to navigating through jungle curses, the Internet is over Johnson playing similar characters over and over again.

Amazon MGM Studios recently released the first trailer of A Working Man and it has already garnered almost 5 million views on YouTube at the time of writing this piece.

On X, the majority of the fans were elated to have their favorite action star back, even if he was playing the same role all over again. The world seems to have come to the collective conclusion that Statham is his own genre and no one’s complaining.

A Working Man is directed by David Ayer and the screenplay is a joint effort from both him and Sylvester Stallone. The film is based on the 2014 novel by Chuck Dixon titled, Levon’s Trade.

A Working Man will be released on March 28, 2025.
