7 Best New Movies and TV Shows Officially Coming to Netflix in October 2026

Netflix is stacking October 2026 with enough heavy hitters to make choosing the evening watch considerably harder. Florence Pugh‘s East of Eden, Ben Affleck’s Animals, The Diplomat Season 4, Lupin Part 4, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, Josh Hartnett’s Below, and Chris Evans’ Sacrifice are all officially arriving during the month. The slate runs from literary prestige and political skulduggery to monsters, heists, cults, and Night City’s familiar brand of carnage. Better yet, these aren’t vague 2026 promises anymore. Netflix has now planted release dates on all seven.

Here are seven October arrivals that have the pedigree, casts, or sheer curiosity factor to warrant a place on the watchlist.

1 East of Eden – October 1

Netflix starts October with an imposing literary swing. Zoe Kazan’s seven-episode East of Eden adapts John Steinbeck’s 1952 novel across generations, with Florence Pugh playing Cathy Ames alongside Christopher Abbott, Mike Faist, Hoon Lee, Tracy Letts, Martha Plimpton, Ciarán Hinds, Joseph Zada, and Joe Anders. Kazan has a peculiar connection to the material: her grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the celebrated 1955 film starring James Dean. She isn’t trying to photocopy his work.

Speaking to Netflix, Kazan said the series needed to be “epic and intimate” while embracing more of Steinbeck’s sprawling story. Pugh was apparently non-negotiable. “I didn’t have a backup,” Kazan said of casting Cathy, later calling Pugh’s command of the camera “unparalleled.” For viewers who want October to begin with something thornier than disposable spooky-season fodder, this generational saga looks formidable.

2 Below – October 8

Josh Hartnett versus something lurking beneath Newfoundland’s waters is a pretty efficient sales pitch. Below is a six-episode creature thriller about a small Canadian fishing community attacked by a mysterious sea beast. Hartnett leads alongside Mackenzie Davis and Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton, with Willow Kean, Ruby Stokes, Rohan Campbell, and Kaleb Horn rounding out the ensemble.

Creator Jesse McKeown deliberately rooted the horror in Newfoundland, describing it to Netflix as a “rugged, dangerous, isolated, scary place” whose warm community offered another side to the setting. That local texture could stop Below from becoming another anonymous monster yarn.

3 Animals – October 9

Ben Affleck pulls double duty as star and director of Animals, a 108-minute political thriller arriving in select theaters and on Netflix October 9. Affleck plays Mark Kimball, a Los Angeles mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped. He and his wife Abigail, played by Kerry Washington, must scramble to meet the ransom while their polished existence begins to buckle. The supporting cast adds serious muscle: Gillian Anderson, Steven Yeun, Luis Gerardo Méndez, and Adriana Paz. Affleck’s Artists Equity is producing with Matt Damon among the producers.

After Argo and The Town, Affleck returning behind the camera for another pressure-cooker thriller makes Animals one of October’s easiest bets.

4 The Diplomat Season 4 – October 15

Kate Wyler has barely survived three seasons of diplomatic bedlam, and Netflix is throwing her straight back into the furnace on October 15. Season 4 finds Keri Russell‘s Kate attempting to contain the fallout from President Grace Penn and Vice President Hal Wyler’s conspiracy involving Russia’s most powerful weapon, while two increasingly volatile marriages collide with an international crisis.

Allison Janney, Bradley Whitford and Nana Mensah have been promoted to series regulars, with Janney and Whitford’s Grace and Todd Penn strengthening the political pressure around Kate and Hal. Creator Debora Cahn told Netflix, “I’m so excited about Season 4,” admitting that every finale leaves her wondering how they can possibly escalate again before the writers find another avenue. Considering Season 3 ended with the political chessboard kicked sideways, October’s return has ample ammunition.

5 Sacrifice – October 16

Sacrifice has one of the month’s most gloriously unhinged premises: Anya Taylor-Joy wants to sacrifice Chris Evans to a volcano. Romain Gavras’ dark comedy follows a washed-up movie star attending a lavish charity gala on a Greek island when a volcanic doomsday cult takes him hostage. Taylor-Joy and Evans are joined by Salma Hayek Pinault, Vincent Cassel, Charli XCX, Yung Lean, Ambika Mod, and John Malkovich.

Gavras isn’t hiding the mythic influence. While writing the movie, he realized, “Oh, we’re making Lord of the Rings,” comparing his characters’ volcanic pilgrimage with the journey to destroy the One Ring. The production even ventured onto a real active volcano, giving this 100-minute oddity considerably more bite than its absurd premise initially suggests.

6 Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 – October 20

Night City is getting fresh meat. Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 arrives October 20 as a standalone 10-episode story featuring an entirely new crew of mercenaries, rather than undoing the devastating consequences of the original anime. Netflix describes the new chapter as a chronicle of redemption and revenge, set within the same brutal world of Cyberpunk 2077 but presented with a reimagined animation style.

That clean break is arguably its most enticing decision. The first Edgerunners told a complete story; resurrecting it wholesale risked cheapening its finale. Instead, Season 2 can let Night City chew up an entirely different collection of ambitious fools.

7 Lupin Part 4 – October 23

October ends its major scripted rollout with a familiar gentleman thief. Omar Sy returns as Assane Diop in all eight episodes of Lupin Part 4 on October 23, joined by Ludivine Sagnier, Antoine Gouy, Soufiane Guerrab, Shirine Boutella, Théo Christine, and Laïka Blanc-Francard. The French hit remains inspired by Maurice Leblanc’s Arsène Lupin stories, with Assane transforming literary tricks into elaborate modern cons. Netflix calls it one of the platform’s most popular non-English productions, and Part 4 brings the action back to Paris after the repercussions of Assane’s previous gambits.
