Spoiler Alert !!!
This article contains a few spoilers from Black Clover manga.
In Black Clover, being powerful does not always mean being tough. Some Magic Knights can destroy massive spells, while others can take a direct hit, get back up, and keep swinging.
This ranking looks at the Magic Knights who have already debuted during the original anime run and are confirmed to appear in Black Clover Season 2 as well. With that said, here are the top 10 Black Clover Magic Knights who stand out the most.
10 Luck’s Lightning Magic Keeps Him Fighting at Point-Blank Range
A still from the Black Clover anime. | Credits: Studio PierrotLuck Voltia has never been interested in fighting from a safe distance. Lightning Magic lets him move incredibly fast, but it also means he is usually right in front of his opponent once the fighting starts.
His battle against Vetto is a good early example. Luck knows he is facing someone far stronger, yet he keeps charging in and taking punishment. He doesn’t have the defensive tools of the characters higher on this list, which is why he starts at No. 10, but his physical toughness still puts him above most ordinary Magic Knights.
9 Magna Turns Pure Grit Into a Serious Fighting Advantage
Magna vs Dante from Black Clover manga. | Credit: ShueishaMagna doesn’t have a royal’s huge mana reserves or a powerful defensive spell wrapped around his body. What he does have is an almost ridiculous amount of grit. He has spent most of his time as a Magic Knight fighting opponents who look stronger than him on paper, and somehow he keeps finding a way to stay in the fight.
The fight between Magna and Dante stands out as one of the best ways to show Magna’s determination since he knows he cannot beat the Dark Triad member through regular means. Instead, he makes the fight into a contest of endurance and beats Dante after both run low on magic. This achievement lands him a higher rank than Luck on this list.
8 William’s World Tree Magic Makes Him Hard to Wear Down
William Vangeance from Black Clover. | Credits: Studio PierrotWilliam Vangeance isn’t the first name that comes to mind when talking about tough Magic Knights. He is not a close-range fighter like Yami or Mereoleona, but his World Tree Magic gives him plenty of ways to survive a dangerous battle.
His magic can cover huge areas and protect others, which gives him far more staying power than a normal Magic Knight. Still, William ranks 8th because his magic is more about controlling and supporting the battlefield than protecting his own body.
7 Noelle’s Valkyrie Dress Puts a Magical Armor Around Her
Noelle Silva from Black Clover. | Credits: Studio PierrotNoelle’s growth is one of the clearest examples of a Magic Knight becoming tougher as the series moves forward. Early in the story, her lack of control makes her own magic a problem. Valkyrie Dress changes that completely by giving her a powerful form that lets her fight while keeping her body protected.
Her battles during the Elf Reincarnation Arc show how much confidence she gains once she can stay in close combat. She is no longer simply standing behind Asta and firing Water Magic. She can move directly into danger and keep fighting against powerful opponents. That is why Noelle sits above William.
6 Fuegoleon Came Back From an Injury That Nearly Killed Him
Fuegoleon Vermillion from Black Clover. | Credits: Studio PierrotFuegoleon’s strongest argument for this list actually comes from what happened before he returned to the battlefield. During the attack by the Eye of the Midnight Sun, he suffers a devastating injury. Simply surviving that attack is one of the biggest durability feats among the Magic Knights.
His return later in the story makes the feat even more impressive. Fuegoleon returns as the captain of the Crimson Lion Kings and continues fighting alongside the other powerful Magic Knights. Salamander also gives him another weapon to keep dangerous enemies away. This gives him a clear advantage over the characters below him.
5 Nozel’s Mercury Magic Makes Breaking Through His Defense Hard
Nozel Silva from Black Clover. | Credits: Studio PierrotNozel Silva might not look like the toughest Magic Knight at first glance, but his Mercury Magic makes getting through his defense a serious problem. He can shape the mercury into different forms, giving him plenty of options when an enemy tries to attack.
Nozel can defend himself while still attacking, which means an opponent cannot simply wait for his defenses to disappear. His experience as a captain also helps him stay calm when the battle becomes dangerous. Fuegoleon has the more dramatic survival feat, but Nozel has the better defensive toolkit. That is enough to put him one spot higher.
4 Nacht’s Devil Unions Give Him Multiple Ways to Take Punishment
Nacht Faust from Black Clover. | Credits: Studio PierrotNacht Faust arrives much later than most of the characters on this list, but he quickly proves that surviving dangerous battles is nothing new for him. His Shadow Magic gives him ways to move around the battlefield, while his devil contracts give him several different forms to use in a fight.
His battle against the twin devils Lilith and Naamah during the Spade Kingdom Raid is where his toughness really stands out. Nacht is pushed into an extremely dangerous situation, yet he continues changing his approach instead of simply being overwhelmed. That versatility gives him an advantage over Nozel.
3 Asta’s Brutal Training Made His Body Shockingly Tough
Asta had no magic from the very beginning, so he had to find another way to keep up with everyone around him. His answer was simple – train his body until it could handle things that should have been impossible for an ordinary person.
That training becomes important almost every time Asta enters a serious fight. He is repeatedly knocked around, injured, and pushed to his limit, yet he keeps getting back up. His physical strength and pain tolerance do most of the work, which is why he comes in third.
2 Yami Can Take Devastating Blows and Still Finish the Fight
Yami Sukehiro from Black Clover. | Credit: Studio PierrotYami Sukehiro has never been the kind of captain who backs away just because he is injured. In fact, some of his best moments come when the fight has already gone terribly wrong, and he still finds a way to keep going.
The real test comes later against Dante during the Spade Kingdom Raid. Yami takes brutal attacks from one of the Dark Triad’s strongest members and continues fighting even after suffering serious injuries. Yami has a longer track record than Asta of taking devastating attacks from top-level opponents and continuing to fight. That is why he edges out Asta for No. 2.
1 Mereoleona Turns Getting Hit Into Part of Her Fighting Style
Mereoleona Vermillion from Black Clover. | Credit: Studio PierrotMereoleona Vermillion is almost impossible to separate from the idea of raw toughness. She does not simply survive attacks; she often seems to enjoy fighting when the battle becomes more dangerous.
The Spade Kingdom Raid pushes that toughness even further. Even after suffering devastating damage while fighting Lucifero, Mereoleona continues attacking instead of backing down. Yami can survive horrifying injuries, and Asta can keep moving after punishment that would stop most people, but Mereoleona takes that stubbornness to another level. That is what makes her the clear No. 1.
