Some of One Piece‘s best fights are remembered because the characters had to think differently, use their powers in clever ways, or come up with a crazy plan in the middle of battle. That is what makes Eiichiro Oda’s fights so much fun to watch.
From impossible Devil Fruit matchups to wild teamwork and Gear 5’s cartoon-like action, these fights prove that brains can be just as important as strength. Here are the 10 most creative fights in One Piece, ranked.
10 The Straw Hats Beat Mr. 3 With Quick Thinking
Luffy vs Mr. 3 from One Piece. | Credit: Toei AnimationThe Little Garden Arc gave fans one of the first fights that felt more like solving a puzzle than winning a battle. Mr. 3’s Wax-Wax Fruit let him build walls, traps, armor, and even the giant wax candelabra that trapped Zoro, Nami, and Vivi. Every time the Straw Hats escaped one problem, another appeared.
The fight was not won because Luffy overpowered Mr. 3. Instead, Usopp used an oil-soaked rope and had Karoo run it around the giant candelabra before igniting it with a Fire Star to melt the wax and free everyone. Then, when Mr. 3 tried to trap Luffy, Luffy grabbed Mr. 3’s burning hair to light up his own leg to melt through the wax defenses and land the final hit. It was an early reminder that clever teamwork could be just as important as strength. That is why this fight takes the 10th spot.
9 Nami Beat Kalifa With Weather Tricks and Mirages

Rather than competing with Kalifa in a head-on battle, Nami relied on her new Perfect Clima-Tact and attacked her opponent from a distance.
She filled the battlefield with fake images, changing the weather, and lightning attacks until Kalifa could no longer tell where the real Nami was. It was one of the first times fans saw just how dangerous Nami could be when she used her intelligence instead of raw power. It earns the ninth spot because it shows how clever ideas can beat raw strength.
8 Luffy Ate His Way Through Cracker’s Biscuit Army

The Biscuit-Biscuit Fruit created soldiers made of biscuits that were constantly being replaced as Luffy destroyed them all in the Whole Cake Island Arc.
The answer was something only Luffy could think of. With Nami making the biscuits soft using her Rain Tempo technique, Luffy simply ate the soldiers. By eating a large number of biscuit soldiers, he got access to his Tankman mode and defeated Cracker. This creativity gives this battle eighth place on our list despite not having the same level of emotional weight as the other battles on our list.
7 Luffy’s Rubber Body Made Enel’s Lightning Useless

Everything changed when Enel’s lightning failed to hurt Luffy. Rubber naturally blocks electricity, making Luffy the one person who completely shut down Enel’s greatest weapon. Watching Enel’s shocked reaction is still one of the funniest moments in One Piece, and it turned a one-sided fight into a battle nobody expected.
6 Usopp’s Negativity Became the Perfect Counter Against Perona

Then Usopp stepped in. Since he was already naturally negative, Perona’s ghosts had no effect on him. He followed that up with trick shots, fake weapons, and clever lies to win the fight. It perfectly showed how Oda can turn a character’s biggest weakness into their greatest strength.
5 The Straw Hats Beat Oars by Fighting as One Team

During Thriller Bark, the crew had no choice but to fight together from start to finish. It lands in fifth place because no other fight shows the Straw Hats working together this well.
Robin held Oars in place, Franky created openings, Nami attacked from a distance, Chopper supported the team, and everyone worked together to create chances for each other. Instead of focusing on one hero, the battle showed why the Straw Hats are strongest when they fight as one.
4 Gear 5 Made Luffy’s Fight Against Kaido Pure Chaos
The final battle of the Wano Arc changed One Piece forever. After awakening his Devil Fruit in Chapter 1044 and making his full Gear 5 debut in Episode 1071, Luffy fought in ways fans had never seen before. Gear 5 alone makes this one of the most imaginative fights in the entire series, earning it the fourth spot.
He grabbed lightning, bounced attacks back, stretched the ground like rubber, became a giant, and even used Kaido as a jump rope. Every chapter brought a new surprise. Gear 5 gave Luffy almost endless freedom, making this easily one of the most creative fights Oda has ever drawn.
3 Luffy Used Water and Blood to Beat Crocodile

Instead of suddenly becoming stronger, Luffy found Crocodile’s weakness. He first used water to make the sand solid and later even used his own blood after running out of water. That smart solution is why this remains one of the most creative victories in One Piece and deserves third place. It was a simple idea, but it completely changed the fight and proved that smart thinking could beat an overpowered Devil Fruit.
2 Law and Kid Used Perfect Teamwork to Beat Big Mom

They knew they could not win through strength alone, so they depended on perfect teamwork.
Law used his Awakening to damage Big Mom from the inside, while Kid trapped and crushed her with his magnetic powers. Even though their egos clashed and they were constantly bickering over who was in charge, their attacks complemented each other perfectly in the heat of battle. It remains one of the best examples of teamwork in Eiichiro Oda‘s series. Its mix of teamwork and Devil Fruit creativity makes it an easy choice for second place.
1 Luffy Beat Future Sight by Fighting the Unexpected

Instead of looking for an easy answer, Luffy slowly changed the way he fought. He improved his own Observation Haki during the battle and later revealed Snakeman, whose punches kept changing direction. Every stage of the fight forced both fighters to adapt, making it the most creative one-on-one battle in One Piece.
