The incident happened at Chick-fil-A on Route 22 near Gelb Ave. at around 9 p.m. on Saturday, the Union County Prosecutor’s Office said.

The prosecutor’s office said officers had arrived at the scene to find seven victims at the eatery, CBS News reported. One of them was pronounced dead, while the other six have non-life-threatening injuries.

The prosecutor’s office said the attack doesn’t appear to be random and said there was no threat to the public.

Scene described as a ‘war zone’

No arrests had been made with authorities calling the investigation active and ongoing.

A man whose girlfriend worked at the Chick-fil-A told CBS New York that a group of men had entered the restaurant and went straight to the area behind the counter, firing multiple shots.

Another man whose his son worked at the fast-food restaurant told ABC7 New York that his son called him in a panic, telling him several masked suspects entered the eatery and that several of his co-workers were injured in the shooting.

The man said he quickly drove to the scene, describing it as a “war zone.”

Public asked to remain ‘vigilant’

New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill called the shooting “tragic” in comments posted on X.

“Our hearts go out to the victim’s loved ones and we are hoping for the full recovery of those who were injured,” she said.

Sherrill also encouraged the community to “remain vigilant and report any information to local law enforcement.”
