Artificial intelligence, or AI, has managed to make a place for itself in almost every industry. Even the anime and manga community are talking about it, and while not everyone is in its favor, One Piece manga creator Eiichiro Oda decided to give it his own twist and use it to have some fun.
The manga creator decided to test the AI Chatbot, Chatgpt, and find out whether it really can replace the creative thinking and drawing skills of a human brain. He asked ChatGPT to create a fun and entertaining storyline for One Piece as he was having a hard time thinking about what to write next.
While the AI Chatbot did come up with a plot, it was not liked by Oda. He then asked ChatGPT to come up with another story, and this time, the response given by the AI Chatbot might be unexpected. However, Oda liked the response and even thought about using it.
Eiichiro Oda Asked AI For Help With One Piece
Last year, the official Twitter account of One Piece staff posted an intriguing video where the One Piece mangaka was seen interacting with Chatgpt. The video showed Oda asking the AI Chatbot to help him with the storyline of One Piece. The mangaka pointed out that he was out of ideas for the next phase of the series.
ChatGPT gave him two different storylines. These storylines were quite unique and evidently a little different from the general theme of the series.
— ONE PIECE スタッフ【公式】/ Official (@Eiichiro_Staff) February 22, 2023The first one was about a Devil Fruit villain called King of Shadows who could control shadows. He somehow kidnapped Tony Tony Chopper and escaped. This led to the Straw Hat Pirates chasing him and fighting him with new allies to retrieve the doctor of their crew.
The second story was a little more terrifying as it involved aliens, witches, and evil spaceships. The aliens need to find a new planet as an evil spaceship destroyed theirs. The witch is trying to find a star that is in possession of the aliens. The crew and the aliens come together to defeat the witch. They even find a new planet for the aliens to get a new life. Eiichiro Oda liked the second story more than the first.
Can AI Really Replace Mangakas like Eiichiro Oda?
While the creation of Artificial Intelligence has certainly helped in the overall development of the world, it has not entirely been comfortable for many aspects of the anime and manga community. This is because many believe that AI might take their jobs and replace them.
There have been multiple reports about people using AI to recreate new anime plots, storylines, character developments, and even voices for the anime characters. Thus, their frustration about not allowing AI into the anime and manga world is completely understandable.
However, no matter how much AI upgrades, it won’t be able to bring the creativity and sense of human touch to the art form. This is why creators like Oda are on the top level. They can even beat Artificial Intelligence in terms of developing narratives like One Piece.
One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
