“You have to accept that”: Union Berlin coach and captain react after losing 7-0 to Bayern

Union Berlin coach and the players conceded that FC Bayern are in a different class than them.

Union Berlin’s rough start to the campaign continued with a 7-0 defeat in Bayern on Friday evening. The defeat leaves the capital city club with only a single point after the first four league games of the season, in which they conceded 17 goals.

“In the end, we just have to keep going, there’s no other option,” the coach Mauro Lustrinelli reacted in his post-match interview. “Now comes the international break and then it goes on. In the first half we defended well for a long time and allowed little. After the break, there were too many individual mistakes.”

The Swiss led FC Thun to their first-ever Swiss Super League title as a newly-promoted club. After conceding three or more goals in each of his first four Bundesliga games, his side will entertain Elversberg and Borussia Dortmund after the international break.

"We tried to keep Bayern away from our box, but then they solved it with sometimes really strong long-range shots,” Christopher Trimmel summed up their difficult night. “You have to accept that, and I also think that we did not do so badly in the first half. Nevertheless, the number of goals hurts in the end," added the captain.

It was also a difficult night for former Borussia Dortmund defender Tom Rothe. “That’s bitter. We came here to put in a good performance and maybe take something with us. But Bayern don’t make it easy for you. If we had the ball, we lost it quickly, unfortunately," said the defender.
