Jude Bellingham's brace helped England to an extra-time victory over Norway in the quarter-final of the 2026 World Cup. The former Borussia Dortmund star scored his first with a brilliant finish before the half-time break to cancel out Andreas Schjelderup's screamer.
The Real Madrid superstar then won it for the Three Lions three minutes into the extra-time after ex-RB Leipzig goalkeeper Orjan Nyland failed to properly deal with Morgan Rogers’ effort from range. Bellingham tied Harry Kane for goals with his sixth of the tournament in as many games.
Erling Haaland, who was a teammate of Bellingham at Borussia Dortmund, had his first World Cup game where he failed to find the net. He was left frustrated when fellow former Bundesliga striker Alexander Sørloth decided against playing him through on goal just before Bellingham's equalizer, and he was penalised for a foul in the buildup when Torbjørn Heggem thought he restored Norway's lead early after the break.
Norway also hit the crossbar in the second-half before England's strong finish to the game. The German coach Thomas Tuchel didn't hide his frustration regarding the team's performance in his post-game flash interview. The 52-year-old is now within two games of becoming the first coach to win the World Cup for foreign country.
Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson and Leipzig's Antonio Nusa played for Norway, while Kane produced another battling performance up front for Tuchel's troops. England are through to the semi-final for the second time in the last three editions as Norway's return to the stage concluded with their first-ever quarter-final appearance. The 1966 winners will face either Argentina or Switzerland in Wednesday's semi-final.
