Tori Spelling recently surprised fans by sharing a long-forgotten story involving none other than Charlie Sheen. On a recent episode of her misSPELLING podcast, the actress opened up about going on a date with Sheen, an evening she recalls as both unusual and unexpectedly memorable.
The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star revealed that the date happened many years ago, during a time when Sheen and her friend Kevin, a dentist, were both working on sobriety.
It was Kevin who approached her, letting her know that Sheen was interested in taking her out. However, Spelling wasn't entirely comfortable going solo.
"I was nervous and didn't want to go alone," she told listeners. So, she agreed to the date, but only if Kevin and his parents tagged along. The group went to an Italian restaurant together, making the evening feel more like a double date-meets-family dinner than a private romantic rendezvous.
A brilliant mind behind the headlines
While romance didn't blossom between the two stars, Spelling came away from the evening genuinely impressed by Sheen, not for his fame or bad-boy image, but for his intellect.
"He was unimaginably intelligent," she recalled, describing him as smart, witty, charming, and full of sharp humor. "This guy was it," she added, clearly still in awe of his mental agility even years later.
The date wasn't the only topic of conversation between the two that night, and their connection, though brief, left a lasting impression. However, their paths diverged soon after. In fact, one of Sheen's more notorious stories found its way back to Spelling when she was asked to help hide him from authorities during a legal incident.
In a dramatic moment retold both on her podcast and in Sheen's new memoir The Life of Sheen, Spelling remembered Kevin showing up at her house with an unusual request: "Can we hide Charlie?"
Authorities were actively looking for Sheen at the time, even using helicopters. Tori ultimately declined to get involved, later learning Sheen understood, writing in his book, "Couldn't blame her, I suppose."
Sheen's memoir and recent Netflix documentary aka Charlie Sheen reveal a man with a deeply chaotic past but also a renewed focus on recovery and redemption. He's been sober for eight years and says he now lives celibate. Much of his transformation, he admits, was driven by his children, especially his daughter Sami.
One pivotal moment came in 2017 when he realized he had forgotten a commitment with Sami while drinking early in the morning. The guilt was a turning point. "That was it," he wrote. Since then, Sheen has remained committed to a sober lifestyle.
Though Tori and Charlie's story was short-lived, it offers a rare, human glimpse into a figure often defined by scandal, and a reminder that there's more beneath the surface of Hollywood's most infamous names.
